6/1/2025 WeHo Pride Parade As corporations pulled out of Pride sponsorships across the country this year, West Hollywood held its annual Pride Parade. Despite growing attacks on LGBTQ+ services from the Trump administration, the mood was hesitantly light, with floats from a variety of the city’s bars making appearances, as well as a crowd of Megan’s from the Universal Studio’s horror sequel. Photos from May 30th 2024 Viveca Jimenez at Collect Pond Park after the jury in former president Donald Trump’s hush money trial announced their guilty verdict. Trans New York resident Viveca Jimenez walked to Collect Pond park, where supporters and critics of Donald J. Trump had gathered to hear the jury’s verdict in the former president’s “hush money” trial. Taking advantage of the media circus, Viveca carried a sign to express a simple message “Trans People are Good People.” She had just found out she would be evicted from her home within the coming weeks. As Trump loyalists wept loudly and Democrats began a count down for each felony conviction, Viveca remained stoic. Major press outlets tended to avoid her. They framed her out of the shots she haunted, unable to fit her important personal narrative within the context of the screaming match happening at either end of the park. She expressed her growing discontent with the GOP to the few crews who would listen. How she was unable to get a job or access healthcare — in part, she suspected, due to her trans identity. “I am a transgender person and I am drowning.” She said to the small group. “Trump took the LGBT community and he smeared it on the floor.” Months later, the Supreme Court has granted Trump “broad immunity” from prosecution for official acts and anti-trans laws still are being proposed and passed around the United States in record numbers. As reported by independent journalist Erin Reed, (@erininthemorning ) yesterday the 11th circuit court of appeals has approved a trans healthcare ban in Florida, that includes adults. These laws are set to be challenged in a Supreme Court hearing later this year. Back outside the courthouse, in what feels like a century ago, I had asked Viveca what she wants out of this election. “I want what you have… A house. A place to rest. Food. Medical insurance. Most importantly a job, because I don’t want to have to beg.” she responded solemnly. “I am here for my dignity. And I am here by myself.”
