In 'Intra_Extra' thirteen artists present intra (muros) works in A-Space, but at the same time, these artists step beyond the limits of these walls and intersect the daily flow of the city. This extra (muros) parcours unfolds as a promenade d’art through district 2060, where the works are displayed in the windowsills of our chambres d’amis.
In the windowsill 'Vitrine 82' (Rotterdamstraat 82)Â
@colestijn presents the work Feuillage (which will egage in dialogue with a work by
@ninajoythielemans ). This work by Cole, made of unfired clay, is constructed from replicas of acanthus leaves that are intertwined in a complex tangle. The formal language of this work refers to the ornamentation that, once you start noticing it, can be found everywhere in the city and that traces back to the classical Corinthian order.
Where ornaments on buildings are usually compositions of the same stylized leaves repeated over and over, in Cole’s work no two leaves are identical. The title Feuillage refers to the term for the botanical motif, the leaf ornament that appears in architecture.
