Something is brewing in South Cornwall.
Coming September 2026.
We believe beer should start before the brewhouse, from the field up. Crafting beer shaped by the landscape to create something truly reflective of the place it was made.
Follow along for the journey from field to glass.
Ever wondered how beer is made? 🍻
We’ve been chatting with Simon from Coldframe again about the interaction of hops and barley to create beer!

🚧 Construction Update 🚧
The brewery is really starting to take shape!
All of the outside has some form of covering on so the inside the spaces are really forming (and are finally dry!). This is the point where we start to go from a bare skeleton towards a more polished building.
Over the next couple of months things are going to move fast.
Follow along and watch out for our stories as this is about to get proper exciting!

Does beer production get any closer to home than this?
Supporting sustainable innovations like Coldframe is at our core 🍻

Welcome to the first of our video series with Simon from @coldframebeer , talking about the benefits of using heritage barley! 🍺

Heritage Barley 🌾
Yesterday myself and Will from the @innovationnursery (with a little help from our four-legged friends!) spent the afternoon hand sowing a host of different heritage and ancient barley varieties.
These trial plots sit next to the field growing our Plumage Archer overlooking the St Austell Bay.
Made up of 15 tiny plots, what's planted in them has the potential to change how we think of barley grown for brewing.
Rather than chasing yield at the expense of everything else, we’re exploring a model of growing that builds resilience, increases diversity, and supports healthier landscapes.
We have started with a meager couple of kilo's of grain, as much as we could get our hands on from the seed banks and others interested in this project which over the next 4-5 years we will propagate up into quantities suitable for brewing with!
This is a project we are really excited about and there is plenty more to come!

Step 1 for our hop growing project 🌿 getting our hands dirty!
Our hop rhizomes arrived earlier in the week but we weren't quite ready to get them into their final positions so we needed to get them into their temporary (1 or 2 week) homes. In these small pots the root systems will start to develop and early growth will continue ensuring we don't lose the plants. It's not the most typical way to plant hops but we aren't your typical brewery!
We now have 45 plants of 3 different species ready to grow in the big glasshouse next to our brewery, more to come on why we are growing them in this way soon. When our taproom opens you will be able to look out over these plants!
Huge thanks to Will here at @innovationnursery for making this happen! Looking forward to seeing how this project develops!

How many workplaces can brag about having a brewery on site? We definitely can ☝️
Stay tuned for what’s brewing this week 👀

The roof is almost finished!
The huge wall and roof panels have been craned in over the past couple of weeks and the brewery is getting closer to being watertight! It's amazing to see the site go from a bare concrete slab, to a beautiful timber frame, to something that resembles a fully formed building in the space of a few weeks.
Next up, battens will go up on the walls and roof ready for the external finishes! Things are really getting exciting!

Mud, rain, timber and more mud! 🌧️
Back to the brewery build! The timber wall panels are starting to go up so the spaces are beginning to come to life!
A few more weeks and the new brewery building will be watertight.

🚧 Construction Update 🚧
The new brewery building has begun to poke it's head above ground! The timber frame was installed here at the @innovationnursery over the past couple of weeks and this is where things start to really take shape.
This frame forms the skeleton of what will become the new home of Coldframe Brewery later this year. It will be exposed on the inside of the brewery in all it's glory, celebrating it's structure and natural texture.
This milestone is the point where things really kick into overdrive, things are going move quickly now so be sure to follow along the journey with us!

Happy New Year 🌱
2025 felt like a bit of a stop–start year for us, but 2026 is shaping up to be something special. A lot has been happening quietly in the background, and over the next few weeks and months we’ll finally be able to share it with you.
The brewery build has moved from a muddy hole in the ground to a finished floor slab. Over the next few weeks the timber frame will start to go up, and we’ll be sharing weekly progress videos as the building begins to take shape.
This spring our growing projects begin. That includes two separate grain projects:
– The first will form the bulk of our grain, grown on site using low-intervention farming methods.
– The second is a long-term project restoring ancient varieties as a population, evolving over time into an adapted landrace unique to our new home.
Alongside the grain, we’ll be starting the hop trials, growing a mix of cultivated and wild hops, and working towards re-establish Cornwall’s lost hop-growing heritage.
All of this sits alongside collaborations, pop-ups, on-site events, and new releases as we continue building out the brewery.
Keep your eyes peeled for updates, videos, and blogs.
2026 is going to be a BIG year!
