There is something sacred in the artist’s gift: the power to build a universe from nothing but thought. In Surfacing HypoKrisia, Laban Trier opened the gates to his surreal playground, inviting our inner children to slip off their shoes and run wild beside him. Steamy, creepy, funny, frustrating, useless and direct from Berlin: Losing/Steam by (love(rocks)) An experimental dance work exploring power, intimacy and resistance 21 May 2026 8pm @coko.space Prinsengracht 526 Amsterdam Tickets: link in bio About: Rooted in both history and speculative imagination, Losing/Steam draws attention to how sex workers have long existed within the private spheres of powerful men, spaces where political, economic, and colonial decisions are shaped. The performance asks: what forms of agency emerge in these intimate encounters, and what might it mean to take that agency seriously? Through a series of evocative scenes, the performers inhabit surreal and subversive characters: sex workers tending to the historical figure of James Watt, slowly poisoning him through steam baths and delicate acts of care. Domestic gestures, steaming shirts, preparing medicinal vapors, transform into quiet acts of resistance. Steam becomes both material and metaphor: a symbol of industrial capitalism’s origins and a force that defies containment, slipping across borders and reshaping environments. The performance shifts between different moods: steamy, creepy, sometimes funny, and sometimes frustrating or seemingly useless. Movement ranges from controlled, ballet-like precision to moments of disorientation and intoxication. At once poetic and confrontational, the performance invites audiences into a space where power is reimagined, where the seemingly invisible becomes potent, and where resistance may take unexpected, intimate forms. (love(rocks)) consists of Row Särkelä-Bassett and Shy Verstraete. Read more: www.coko.amsterdam

Fragments from our last COKO Happening, 26 March: An evening where the body became an archive, of memory, perception, and subtle defiance. Face and Fingers unfolded through 108 gestures, with face and hands stepping into the spotlight as quiet yet eloquent protagonists. With powerful performances by Moe Satt and Liah Frank, the night moved between choreography, conversation, film and Lahpet Thoke (tea leaf salad) tasting. Special thanks to Willem Velthoven for moderating the post-performance talk. Thank you to everyone who joined us at COKO Space. Our next COKO Happening invites you into a space where absence becomes presence, and what was denied begins to take shape: Surfacing HypoKrisia By Charlie Laban Trier 30 Apr 2026 20:00 Surfacing HypoKrisia unfolds as a series of performative acts that attempt to summon a speculative, myth-like figure: HypoKrisia. Imagined by Trier as the forgotten younger sister of Tiresias, the oracle from Greek mythology, HypoKrisia emerges as both fiction and force, a presence that reshapes how resilience and identity are understood. According to the classical myth, Tiresias sees two snakes twisting together while mating. Disturbed by what he does not understand, he strikes the female snake and is transformed by Hera into a woman. In Trier’s reimagining, both Tiresias and HypoKrisia can be read as trans figures. But HypoKrisia does not move toward a final form. She stays in-between. She chooses to exist in a state of being unfinished, always not becoming. HypoKrisia is cast as dangerous, ungraspable, and ultimately erased. Like the snake, she is fluid and elusive, shedding skins, slipping through narrative control. The performance acts as an invocation, a gesture of calling her back from beneath the surface where she has long been suppressed. get your ticket: link in bio More info: www.coko.amsterdam

@here_to_support_amsterdam “In de roze stemlokalen van Here to Support”! Yesss!

Welk vakje kleur jij rood morgen? All voices matter! Bekijk de foto’s van @juliansarmiento55 Neem jij alle stemmen mee morgen in het stemhokje? Alternative Polling Station Every Voice Matters! Friday 13.03.26 from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm COKO Space, Prinsengracht 526, Amsterdam Voting for all! Participation in free elections is a human right. On March 18, municipal elections will be held in Amsterdam. Residents of the city will then elect a new municipal council for the next four years. But there are also Amsterdammers who are not allowed to vote, for example because they do not have a postal address, do not have the correct papers, live in an asylum seekers’ center, or have only recently been granted refugee status! Are you not allowed to vote in the municipal elections? But do you want your voice to be heard? Here to Support is opening an alternative polling station where your vote counts! We invite you to share your thoughts on what is important for our city. After the elections, these ideas will be presented to the new city council and the mayor.
