Ozzy Osbourne was my favourite singer and favourite record artist. I have every album and I like every album for the most part, there’s bangers on all of them. So I figured I’d share a bunch of Ozzy related memories. Might be a little long but here we go.
1. The first time I heard Iron Man was on the side of the road at 1-2am between Grand Rapids and Winnipeg. The second I heard that guitar it hit me right in the soul.
2. As a rez kid, I never really got to go to concerts. But I eventually got to see Ozzy 4 times. Twice solo on the Black Rain and Scream tours and twice for Black Sabbath on the 13 and The End tours.
3. I went with an uncle for the Black Rain show. This was back in 2007 and he was able to sneak in a mickey and got sloshed. On the ride home (he didn’t drive that night) he wouldn’t stop chanting “Ozzy Ozzy Ozzy” and expressed his disappointment Ozzy didn’t bite a bat. He’s passed now, I miss that guy.
4. For one of my birthday’s, my late friend Nathan came over and we watched concert videos and ate. We gave him a ride home and as a gift he gave me his Randy Rhoads poster from his wall.
5. Speaking of Nathan, I sang a couple times with his band Pro-diggy. Sometimes during their shows and sometimes they were the backing band for a talent show. My memory is a bit foggy, but I’ve definitely won money singing Crazy Train and Paranoid.
6. For my high school graduation, I got a record player and Ozzy’s new Scream album. The album opened with ‘Let it die’ which contains the lyrics “it’s a celebration, graduation.” Blew my mind!
7. While I was Victoria recently, I made sure to order Ozzy’s last show and watched the whole thing. A few days later I sang Mama I’m coming home at the karaoke bar with my cousins from back home.
8. The day Ozzy died, my buddy Gordie came over and we watched Ozzy and Sabbath videos all day.
Most celebrity deaths don’t affect me, but this one hurt. Thanks for reading this far. Play some Ozzy, LOUD!
