Empowering menstruators through education, employment and access to sustainable sanitary products made in Masiphumelele.
đżđŚ Cape Town, South Africa
Itâs no secret that social media was never our strong suit given our lack of online presence in the past⌠So while many of you have followed our journey from the start, you might be wondering what exactly it is that we do.
Hereâs a simple summary that might help you understand.
Why weâre moving away from the term âperiod povertyâ 𩸠Swipe through to learn why weâre saying âmenstrual inequityâ instead - and why it matters â¤ď¸
Itâs important to address inclusivity when discussing menstrual health.
We believe ALL menstruators deserve access to resources and knowledge to manage their menstrual cycle.
Regardless of gender identity, Code Red Initiative is committed to serving menstruators in need. đЏâđž

Thatâs a wrap on 2025! And it has hands down been our most impactful year yet. â¤ď¸âđĽ
We reflected on the year and summarised it in our Annual Report. If youâd like to take a look, you can find it linked in our bio. đđ
Thank you again to all the donors, brands, friends and family that keep us going. Our hearts are bursting with pride and love. Itâs been a magical journey and we couldnât be more grateful for the connections and community weâve built. â¤ď¸
Wishing everyone a peaceful summer season. We will see you in the new year with some exciting plans! đŤ
Happy (late) birthday to our lady on the right, @katisnotreal_ . â¤ď¸
Thank you for your imagination, sensitivity, and love. We wouldnât be where we are today without you! Weâve achieved so much, especially this year, thanks to you.
We love you! Hereâs to many more exciting plans and pads in our future. â¤ď¸
Thatâs a wrap on our Code Red Club sessions for 2025!
After an in depth consent workshop, we had a little class party - eating some sweet treats and making Code Red friendship bracelets â¤ď¸
These bracelets serve as a reminder that even though the sessions are over, these girls will always be a part of the Code Red Community.
If youâd like to support our work, you can donate via the backabuddy link in our bio!
As we begin to tie up the loose ends of 2025, we are left with full and beaming hearts.
Connection has certainly been the word of the year.
We canât wait to see what the next chapter has in store for us âď¸đ
Thank you for being here!
Imini emandi kuwe, sisâ Khululwa! đ
We are so grateful for you and everything you bring to Code Red. Youâve been apart of our family since the early days. Weâve dreamt together, grown together, and laughed a bunch together.
Thank you for your passion and commitment. We canât wait to celebrate you.

NOT JUST A KIOSK 𩷠the beautiful, budding brainchild of @be.taveira !
With a desire to bring more depth and a way of giving back to our festival scene in South Africa - Bea conceptualised and built âNot Just a Kioskâ. This cozy little structure sells all sorts of festival essentials from lighters to tampons. And the proceeds go directly towards good causes !
We were so honoured to be one of the first organisations to be featured and donated to.
Isnât it amazing how our party spaces can also generate more awareness and connection!
Yesterday afternoon we visited our friends at @masi_violinoutreach to deliver them some menstrual kits and give a quick educational session đ§Ąđ¤â¨what a special day of collaboration!
If you havenât heard of them, go check out their work! It is beyond inspiring to see the impact they have on these young learners lives. Music is so powerful!
Reusable sanitary kit distribution is underway đ§Ąđ
Last Saturday, we kicked off distribution with a delivery to our Code Red Clubs and seamstresses. It was so fantastic to see everyone again.
In the coming weeks, we will deliver more of our pads throughout Masiphumelele and Ocean View.
We will stay in close contact with those receiving buckets in order to offer them support in the use of these products and receive valuable feedback.
If youâd like to support our cause, you can buy a set of reusable sanitary pads for yourself or sponsor a set for someone in need!
Just DM us!
