SYSTEM RE-BOOTđ¨
Hi Everyone! Hereâs an updated introduction for the newcomers!
Iâm a Disaster & Emergency Management student with a fixation on decentralized communication. If it involves Meshtastic, repurposed hardware, or life-saving EDC, Iâm probably tinkering with it.
Currently on the Desk:
1. Node Builds: Optimizing LoRa deployments for maximum reliability. Deployed Roof Solar Build, Multiple handheld portables built and repeated testing.
2. Cyberdeck Project: Transforming a vintage case into a Pi-powered mobile command unit.
3. Essentials: Perfecting the ratio of caffeine to low-end bass.
My mission here is simple: Knowledge Transfer. Iâm deep in the world of Disaster & Emergency Management, which means I donât just care if a gadget looks coolâI care if it works when it matters most.
I am learning something new everyday in my Meshtastic journey. Letâs learn and build together!
This page isnât about sales pitches or affiliate linksâitâs about the raw data and the gear that keeps us connected when the grid goes dark.
No storefront. No fluff. Just tech for the resilient.

Long term Project:
The Digital Toolbox: Field Browser Kit đ ď¸đť
In a disaster or a communications-outage scenario, information is just as vital as any physical tool. This compact setup is a possible solution for on-the-go data management and information sharing when the grid goes dark. Status: Programming.
The Hardware
Built into a 5.11 Tactical Flex Admin Pouch, this kit houses:
⢠Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W (in a protective heatsink case)
⢠INIU Power Bank for long-lasting field runtime
⢠USB Expansion for high-speed thumb drive access
Operational Capabilities đĄ
By plugging in a USB drive, this field server becomes a centralized repository for critical documents. Using a localized web browser interface, I can host and share:
⢠Command & Control: Digital ICS/HICS forms and regional protocols.
⢠Mapping: Offline maps and detailed building blueprints.
⢠Asset Management: Role-based accessâdifferent team members can access specific files based on their assignment.
Why Offline?
Whether itâs a network failure or a remote deployment, having a âlocal cloudâ ensures that vital dataâfrom medical protocols to site plansâis always accessible to those who need it, right from their own devices.

Back in December, I watched a video featuring Shawn Ryan and Ryan Montgomery that changed my perspective on decentralized tech. What began as curiosity has evolved into a hobby that fuels my creativity and ties directly into my background in emergency management. Building out these nodes and servers isnât just about the techâitâs about creating resilient communication solutions for when they are needed most.

Testing out some major upgrades outside the other day.
⢠đ Offline File Browser: Up and running for those times when the grid goes dark.
⢠đĄ MeshMonitor: Fully integrated and tracking nodes in real-time.
⢠đ Nyme.sh Meshview: Running like a dream. Seeing the network map come to life is incredibly satisfying.
The goal was a rugged, portable field server, and itâs finally starting to feel like a complete command center. More updates to come!

The Code3Caffeine Cyberdeck is officially taking shape!đĽ
The goal for this build: Total Information Autonomy. đĄ
More than just a portable PC, this is evolving into a dedicated Field Server. The Raspberry Pi 4 (housed in the Argon case for heat management) is now configured to host a full offline library via Kiwixâincluding all of Wikipedia and WikiMed.
While the server handles the data, itâs also running MeshMonitor in the background to keep tabs on the local mesh network.
Hardware specs:
⢠Power: Ansody & secondary high-capacity power banks.
⢠Connectivity: Ruggedized USB-C, USB 3.0, and HDMI bulkheads for external access without opening the case.
⢠Software: Kiwix (Offline Wiki), MeshMonitor (coming soon), and Meshtastic integration.
Knowledge is power, especially when the grid goes dark. đ ď¸

Quick look at The Camper build. Keeping it simple and reliable:
â˘Apache 1800 case, Heltec T114 running Meshtastic, and an Alfa high-gain antenna. Powered by a 10,000mAh LiPo backed by solar for indefinite uptime.
â˘The interior is barebones, but the performance is rock solid. đĄ
â˘Using Dual Lock Velcro to secure it to the truck or for quick deployment when I find a spot where âheight is might.â đťâ°ď¸
⢠The build is still very early stages with room for improvement. đđ¨đźâđť

The Ham Radio University (HRU) at LIU Post was an absolute blast this year. The vibe at Hillwood Commons was electric, especially during that Meshtastic panelâthey had to move the forum to a bigger room! It was awesome to see a crowd of everyone from tech-savvy kids and high school groups to seasoned Elmer veterans getting hyped about mesh networking and LoRa. Between that and the STEM Curriculum Forum, there was a ton of great info to soak up. Itâs clear that whether youâre into the high-tech âmakerâ side of things or the classic radio fundamentals, thereâs a massive community of people ready to geek out together.
The âClub Roomâ was another high point, definitely the place to be if you wanted to talk shop. Getting to hang out with the guys from MARS (Military Aux. Radio System) and the Nassau County RACES team was eye-opening. Itâs one thing to read about emergency comms, but hearing firsthand how they bridge the gap between civilian hobbyists and military/government infrastructure is a different level of cool. It was a solid reminder that while weâre all having fun with the gear, these teams are doing some seriously important work for the community. Huge thanks to the organizers for putting on such a top-tier event! See you next year! đĄđŤ #hamradiouniversity #hruliu #meshtastic #lilygotdeckplus
Coffee, Comms and Weather updates. The weather channel that members of Nyme.sh runs has become one of my favorite features. I can enjoy my coffee and read latest weather updates from Queens and Nassau users.
What is a Weather Meshtastic Node? đŚď¸đĄ
A weather node is a standard Meshtastic radio (like a Heltec V3 or RAK WisBlock) paired with environmental sensors. Instead of just sending text messages, it acts as an automated reporter, broadcasting real-time conditions from its specific location to every other radio in the mesh network.
How Does it âMakeâ a Message? đ ď¸
Itâs a simple three-step process:
1. Sense: Tiny sensors (like a BME280) connected to the node measure things like temperature, humidity, and barometric pressure.
2. Encode: The Meshtastic firmware takes those raw numbers and packs them into a âTelemetryâ packetâa lightweight, digital data string.
3. Broadcast: Using LoRa (Long Range) radio waves, the node chirps that data out. Any other node in range picks it up, displays it on its screen (or phone app), and passes it along to extend the range.
Perfect for monitoring the summit before you hike or keeping tabs on the backyard garden from miles away. No subscription, no Wi-Fi, just pure radio waves. âĄď¸. Letâs get connected, See you on the meshđ #Meshtastic #LoRa #OffGrid #WeatherStation
