Alweer 8 maanden geleden dat mijn geliefde vader terugkeerde naar zijn schepper. Allah ie rahmoe. Eén van de vroegste herinneringen die ik van mijn vader heb is die van een klein kind die naar haar vader opkijkt terwijl hij zich aan het klaar maken is om de nacht in te gaan; een nachtdienst draaien bij de NS. Een van de vele nachten die hij na meer dan 25 jaar werken bij de NS erop had zitten. Ik heb mijn vader nooit horen klagen; weer of geen weer hij stond daar en deed zijn ding. Als vader, echtgenoot, werknemer en als eerste generatie gastarbeider in Nederland. Trots op zijn baan, zorgvuldig en met beleid. Mijn vader was een trotste man, met weinig woorden kon hij daar waar het nodig was subtiel zijn grenzen aangeven als dat nodig was. Ook als hij ging om zijn identiteit en zijn dna. Mijn vader heeft ons zijn hele leven meegeven dat we dankbaar mochten zijn voor de kansen die we kregen en die moesten aangrijpen. Trots op het feit dat de deur met met kansen voor ons openstond en dat we daar gebruik van mochten maken en vooral moesten maken. Dat hard werken loont, maar bovenal eerlijkheid, trots zijn op je roots. En daarom is mijn reis naar Marokko bitterzoet; het terugkeren na 8 maanden naar mijn lieve papa zijn huis, maar ook het feit dat ik over een week een ode mag brengen aan zijn legacy. Wanneer je pijn, verdriet en rouw kan omzetten in kracht kunnen er hele mooie dingen ontstaan. En dat is wat ik de afgelopen maanden heb proberen te doen; met een idee, met een geweldig team en met de wil van Allah. WEAVE, Crossing Cultures is een ode aan mijn vader. Een vader die mij de meest wijze lessen heeft meegegeven die ik op mijn manier weer mag doorgeven aan mijn kinderen. WEAVE, Crossing Cultures bestaat uit een prachtige serie foto’s van de meest mooie en unieke Marokkaanse Caftans waarbij Nederlandse cultuurelementen en tradities verwezen zijn. Precies zoals mijn vader het gewild had. Ik nodig jullie uit om de komende tijd mee te kijken naar mijn stories en verhaal aangaande WEAVE. Ook wil ik jullie vragen om mee te denken over mooie plekken in Nederland waar WEAVE gezien mag worden. Bedankt fantastisch team voor jullie bijdrage en vertrouwen.
