Melissa and I did a thing. That thing was a gigantic (3,800 sq ft) mural. 🤯
The Piney Creek mural lives in Glen Morgan, WV.
We painted friends, animals, and flora on polytab over a span of many months.
Thankfully, our incredible friends Emily and Betsy let us move into their shop (@basecampprinting ) AND use their bodies for size reference of the mural. 😌
This project had many hands in its creation, and I still can’t believe it’s finished.

Can you tell that I’m still a little salty? About (and from) the heat.
I installed this one solo, and at around 60 x 20’ feet, it took a lot out of me. People say something about the journey, the struggle, and the reward, right?
I wanted to lean more into decorative designs and painting the world to be a little softer, and thankfully, it was embraced.

Spent a week in LA — saw some things (mostly taxidermy) and took a class (also for taxidermy)! I’ve been obsessed since I was a kid, so am I losing it? Yes.
Garrett and I were able to spend some time in Spain and Morocco. ❤️
It was beautiful, colorful, and exciting — I even brought back some paint from Majorelle and a nasty cough.
Art can often be a solitary process—the artist alone in their studio huddled over a canvas for hours. 🧑🎨
But, Nichole “Coco” Westfall’s @cocoispainting_ approach is different. Her art supplies too often include cranes, ladders, scaffolding and dozens of community members yielding the paintbrush too.
Her larger-than-life nature murals stretch across the region and invite the community to breathe new life into once ignored spaces. 🎨

Grief comes in many forms, and to be able to give folks a place to express their grief this year at Healing Appalachia was an honor. In the recovery community, grief and joy are often so closely intertwined. Grief for the past and joy for the future; grief for those lost, joy for those saved, and hope for the future.
Thank you to Nichole Westfall (@cocoispainting_ ) for helping us give a beautiful backdrop for festival-goers to express their grief and grow hope. And if you didn't see, we got to showcase it at this year's You Got Gold celebration!
