Meet Vina, she is a female adult olive ridley sea turtle who was found floating near the jetty at Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu,in Baa Atoll, right where we are. Simah, the resort excursion guide together with his team spotted her floating and Rosie, the resort’s marine biologist, assisted by getting her out of the water after contacting us for guidance. They brought her directly to the centre and is now under our care.
Following her initial medical examination, our veterinary team found that Vina has partially lost her left front flipper. She is also debilitated and has buoyancy syndrome and therefore requiring intensive and careful medical care. Our veterinary team is closely monitoring her condition, and we remain hopeful that with continued treatment she will recover and eventually thrive again.
Fun fact; Vina means grass ( ވިނަ ) in dhivehi!
You can be part of her journey by adopting her, just follow the link in our bio.

🐢 Turtle Tuesday – New Turtle Alert! 🐢
On a recent trip to Bodu Hithi Turtle Point, we spotted a turtle that isn’t yet in our database, always an exciting moment for our team!
This individual is a small juvenile, with a shell length of around 40 cm. At this size, it’s still in the early stages of its life, navigating the reef and learning the best feeding and resting spots.
We’ll be keeping an eye out for this little one in the future, and hopefully it becomes a regular visitor so we can learn more about its movements and behaviour.

Our 8th nest of 2026 has hatched at @cocopalmdhunikolhu 🐢
Watch as the hatchings overflowed out of the nest. We noticed the nest progressing throughout the afternoon and we waited for their grand appearance just after sunset
The green sea turtles are the quickest to complete their journey to the ocean, eager and ready for their adventure ahead

Meet the Manta: Penguin Poo 🐧✨
MV-MA-2996, better known as Penguin Poo, is a juvenile female manta ray estimated to be around 3 metres wide. She was first identified on 24 September 2013 at Lhohifushi Corner in North Male Atoll and has since been encountered 23 times, all within North Male Atoll waters.
This manta season alone, we’ve been lucky enough to sight Penguin Poo on 5 separate occasions! She always seems ready to flash her belly for us, making it easy to capture the all-important ID photo 📸
Penguin Poo can also be recognised by the healed wound on her right pectoral fin from a previous predatory bite. Combined with her unique belly spot pattern, she’s become one of the easier mantas for us to identify as she cruises through the plankton-rich waters feeding.

Meet Dadung, a juvenile green sea turtle recorded in our lagoon
Dadung was very small when they were first recorded in 2025 and had a dark colouration
Previously, we have observed little newbies becoming less dark overtime as they mature. They tend to lighten to an orange colour and then lightening again in adulthood to a more pale green/grey colour
We have yet to sight Dadung in 2026, but we wonder how their colouration will change….

Earth Day 2026 at @cocopalmdhunikolhu 🌏
From experiencing wildlife to getting down and dirty in conservation… it is all about giving back to the environment that all of us here love and respect
We cleaned our lagoon (above and below the surface),restored our shorelines with newly planted native trees, and added new life to our coral garden 🪸
We also welcomed Hithaadhoo school students to the Marine Turtle Rescue Centre, where they learned about sea turtle rescue and rehabilitation by @oliveridleyproject inspiring the next generation of ocean guardians. 🐢
Small actions, together as a team, make a greater impact

Another nest hatching at @cocopalmdhunikolhu
Happy #TurtleTuesday from these adorable green sea turtle hatchlings 🐢
After incubating for just 49 days, they gradually emerged throughout yesterday morning and evening and made their way to the sea
Our nests usually incubate for closer to 60 days, making this unexpected and unusual. Perhaps the change in weather triggered their grand arrival ⛈️

Tiny hands, big impact 🪸
In December 2023, our little islanders embarked on a journey of patience, care and coral reef protection
These fragments of Pocillopora corals, found broken on the seafloor, stood little hope against sand movements
Once planted on the reef structure, they began to encrust and develop. After 2 years they are flourishing and attract the diverse marine life of our coral garden

Meet HK6085… now officially known as Pickle! 🥒✨
Over the past two years, Pickle has been sighted 15 times at Turtle Point, making her a familiar (and very loved) face on our reef. Using photo ID of the unique scale patterns on the side of each turtle’s face, we’re able to recognise individuals like Pickle every time they return.
Even more exciting? She’s recently been adopted through @oliveridleyproject 🌊 This means someone out there is now supporting her journey and helping protect sea turtles just like her.
Every sighting helps us better understand their movements, behaviour, and how we can protect their ocean home. And by adopting a turtle, you can be part of that story too 💙
Keep an eye out next time you’re at Turtle Point… you might just spot Pickle cruising by! 🐢✨

If you have been here on the island with us, then you know our latest turtle nest has kept us on our toes…
Laid in February, turtles began emerging at just 50 days of incubation!
Usually, hatchlings emerge together, working as a team to push through the 50cm of sand above them, but this time they emerged one or two at a time, some in the evening and some during the day.
After 2 days of hatchlings gradually emerging, we excavated and found another 11 hatchlings remaining inside. These were released together on the beach to begin their journey….

This week we are highlighting the team behind our sea turtle nesting project 🥚
From reporting nesting mothers, relocations, nest protection, monitoring, excavations and ensuring our hatchlings make their way safely to the sea, we have a whole team behind the scenes
It takes an island of dedicated staff to continue the protection of these keystone species and we appreciate all the support from various departments
From security, housekeeping, task force to transport, excursions, front office and marine team!
