Today, I closed my fashion studio.
Not because I could afford to—this is one of the busiest weeks of my year.
But because I believe some days call for something bigger than business.
I paid my employee to stay home. I turned down high-profile work.
And I joined hundreds of other small businesses choosing to pause today in solidarity.
I was brought to this country as a child. Forced to leave and apply again and again for visas, I waited for decades to be recognized as a citizen. I adapted, traveled the world while I waited for my life to begin, and followed every rule. I built my life from the ground up. And still, there were moments I was made to feel like I didn’t belong.
But I do.
And so do the many people this country is built upon.
This isn’t about sides. It’s about dignity.
It’s about believing that what makes us strong is not sameness—but care, courage, and community.
I’m a small business owner, a mother, an artist.
And today, I stood still—on purpose.
It was almost two years ago that I first shared this design. The process of bringing something from your twisted imagination into the real world is never linear, but here we are. With heartfelt thanks to @haskellfx for his immense talent and dedication and to @cocoasper for patterning reality and reminding me that “perfection is neither possible nor required,” please meet Mick.
