@ocmgolf — founded by Mike Cocking, Ashley Mead and Geoff Ogilvy — has risen from Melbourne’s Sandbelt to become one of the world’s most in-demand golf architecture firms. We explore how obsession, craft and an anti-signature philosophy took them global.

Huntingdale’s history is fascinating, with C.H. Alison drawing up plans for a golf course in the Australian Sandbelt from his study in England, never visiting and entrusting Sam Beriman to translate those plans to the property. After re-opening at the end of 2025, @ocmgolf added to the unique history of one of the more storied clubs in Melbourne with a dramatic overhaul to vault it back into the forefront of golf in the region. @cockingmike gives us the details on Huntingdale, and for more on the revitalized layout, read @drewharvie ’s course profile on Golf Club Atlas.
Without question the most important part of our role as architects is the time we spend on site during construction.
Walking the land over and over.
Thinking through possibilities.
And then finally deciding the best way forward.
Part of this process is sketching in the field to explain an idea to our shapers, a contractor, or on occasions, the client.
Sometimes these are nothing more than a simple line drawing with notes... Other times it might be something a little more elaborate.
Either way, field sketches are a big part of how we work.
A second look at the transformation at Huntingdale Golf Club following the recent redesign by @ocmgolf
Looking forward to seeing how it plays as the turf continues to mature.
Lots of new golf on the way 👀👀

From sketch to reality: Buckley’s Chance proving it’s named that way for a reason.
On paper, the 4th is the perfect balance of risk and reward. In reality, it's a knee-trembler with trouble waiting on both sides.

The 15th, just as @ocmgolf imagined it. This par-4 has an almost square green, a throwback to the days where some putting surfaces in the UK were shaped that way as a result of fences used to keep sheep out 🐏
