Children of Bodom
@tavastiaklubi , ready for the second show.
When Children of Bodom played, for example, in Japan in 1999 or in Seoul in 2001—hell, anywhere during that turn-of-the-millennium madness—being there to witness those performances felt almost surreal. Like, goddamn, these youngsters are insanely good. And that is an understatement.
When
@alexilaiho.official passed away, the grief was massive. Massive because an incredibly talented human being was gone. But massive also because it felt—not that surprisingly—like Children of Bodom would never be seen live again.
Enter February 2026.
Children of Bodom celebrating Alexi’s—and the band’s—legacy with two sold-out shows in Helsinki. And they could not have done it any better.
Before the gig even kicked off, a photo and video collage featuring rare footage was shown to fans who had traveled from all over the world. Then came over 20 songs—hit after hit. Heartfelt speeches from the band members. Crystal-clear, powerful sound. Killer lights. You name it.
And then there was
@braindeadsamy . His role? In many ways, the hardest of them all. Damn it—how do you step into Alexi Laiho’s spot? That position is one of the most demanding in the heavy metal world for a singing guitarist. You have to shred through insanely intricate riffs and solos while delivering the lyrics—and in some cases, practically conjure them up on the spot.
Luckily, Samy—yes, famously “brain-dead”—didn’t care about the outside debate. He trained like a dude possessed and was ready for the ride.
Seriously… this one-of-a-kind wildchild from the backwoods of Central Finland just walks in and completely detonates the place. No debate. What the actual f**k?
If this was it, then it was it. But let’s seriously hope it wasn’t. Hand on heart—do you want to see Children of Bodom in the kind of razor-sharp form they had back around the turn of the millennium, and of course with
@alexander_kuoppala on board as well? Because if more shows are announced, it’s possible again.
So... let’s hope they’re not dead yet.
