A federal judge has allowed a lawsuit challenging prison labor conditions at Louisiana State Penitentiary (Angola) to move forward as a class action — a decision that could impact thousands of incarcerated people.
The case focuses on Angola’s “farm line,” an agricultural work assignment that places incarcerated individuals in outdoor field labor on land that once operated as a plantation. Plaintiffs allege the conditions may violate the Eighth Amendment’s protections against cruel and unusual punishment and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The ruling comes amid broader scrutiny of Angola, where Corey Miller (C-Murder) is currently incarcerated. Miller is housed under the same labor and disciplinary framework challenged in the lawsuit and previously led a hunger strike protesting prison conditions, including medical care and work assignments.
While the lawsuit and Miller’s conviction are legally separate, both raise constitutional questions about conditions of confinement, labor, and accountability inside the prison system.

Louisiana’s history with Jim Crow juries — where felony convictions stood even without unanimous verdicts — was rooted in racism and exclusion. In 2020, the U.S. Supreme Court finally declared non-unanimous juries unconstitutional, but hundreds of people convicted under the old system are still serving sentences because the state hasn’t provided a way to revisit those cases. It’s a reminder that real justice means fixing old wrongs, not just banning unfair policies.

Purple Union, alongside Private Stock News: Purple Edition, is calling for urgent federal intervention at Louisiana State Penitentiary (Angola) and a full review of the continued confinement of Corey Miller (C-Murder).
Despite documented medical issues and assurances he would be removed from unsafe labor, Corey Miller continues to face conditions that endanger his health—followed by retaliation when he refuses. These inhumane practices reflect a broader crisis affecting many incarcerated people, including those who are wrongfully convicted.
With Louisiana’s Governor declaring a state of emergency at Angola, federal oversight is no longer optional—it is necessary.
Corey Miller’s conviction is rooted in serious constitutional violations, including Louisiana’s former 10–2 non-unanimous jury law. He is innocent and deserves clemency, a full pardon, and freedom.
Justice must be served. Human dignity must be upheld.

The Angola Prison Farm Line lawsuit (VOTE et al. v. LeBlanc) is ongoing, with major recent developments including a federal judge granting class certification in late 2025, allowing the case to proceed on behalf of all affected inmates, and setting a trial date for February 3, 2026, to address claims of cruel and unusual punishment and forced labor in extreme heat, following earlier rulings that provided temporary heat-related protections and challenged the state’s increased heat alert thresholds.
