ART409: Advanced Animation Production is an entire class dedicated to a single stop motion, 3D animated production.
This spring, with support from Dean Campbell's CAMEO initiative, and under the Art Direction of Jo Moorehead, ART409 Advanced Animation Production launched production on the "All Roads Lead Through CMU" promotional spot. In a single semester they 3D printed props and armatures, fabricated puppets, built sets for over half the production, AND completed animation for the entire first act!
Next spring the class will continue the production, completing all three acts by the end of the 2027 spring semester.
Last week students in ART 483: Nineteenth-Century European Art presented the 1889 Paris Exposition as part of the class Reacting to the Past game. They spent weeks researching and then playing historical figures key to the art world of the 1880s.
That's a wrap on the CMU Animation Showcase. What a fun night! Thanks to the all the students, friends, and family who joined us. Congratulations to our graduating seniors! Their galleries are still up on the 3rd floor of the Park Library.
This is the last week to see "Kurfuffle" the BFA in Studio Art exhibition at the University Art Gallery. It will be on view through May 9th. Take a break from studying for finals and treat yourself to a gallery visit!
Tomorrow is the CMU Animation Showcase at 6PM in the Bush Theater in Moore Hall. It will feature the top animations from all levels, including the junior and senior films. A reception follows on the 3rd floor of the Park Library, where the Senior Gallery exhibition is on display. We can't wait to see you there!
Intertwined is a 2D hand drawn digitally animated short film exploring themes of friendship, grief, and healing. The story follows Anika as she descends through a dream like museum of her own mind, while guided by the spirit of her best friend. It was created by Emily Billinghurst and Brayden Johnson.

Love Detective is a 2D animated film with a focus on colors and dramatic lighting. It follows a detective and a thief and their dramatic chase through a city. It was created by Estrella Moreira. Follow @lovedetectivefilm for more information.

4 Goobers & A Bakery is a 3-minute 2-D digital hand-drawn animated comedy short film / series pilot episode. The story follows four characters (Rab, Graf, Cat, and Dawg) in their efforts to successfully run an eccentric, but popular, bakery in a world full of anthropomorphic animals. The Goobers’ bakery happens to reside next to the town witch’s treehouse, and what starts as a mix-up in their ingredient deliveries soon evolves into a catastrophic, semi-apocalyptic event. The Sand-Ryder: Souk Fight is a 2D animated short film with 3D modeled backgrounds set in a futuristic African world. The story follows a missing woman named Sarai and a bounty hunter named Azare who tries to protect her. It was created by Marta Kalumbula, Makayla Dixon, and Diana Malla.
