I had a great time today at Ballard Commons for the One Seattle Day of Service! I helped pick up trash and even painted part of a mural. Thank you to all the volunteers across the City who participated in making Seattle a better place for all. #OneSeattle #dayofservice2023

High temperatures this weekend means lots of Seattleites will be cooling down in one of our many lakes or around Puget Sound. It’s important that you do everything you can to make sure you and your loved ones are safe when enjoying water activities. Washington waters are often cold enough to cause muscles not to work and the water remains cold even when temperatures are high. Here are some tips to stay safe near the water: -Learn to swim including water safety and survival skills -Wear a life jacket -Swim where there is a lifeguard -Supervise children near water -Do not use alcohol or drugs during water activities -Learn First Aid and CPR Remember, every summer Seattle Fire Department responds to preventable drownings, let’s do our part to stay safe and enjoy the water! Please visit the Public Health- Seattle & King County to learn more: https://kingcounty.gov/depts/health/violence-injury-prevention/water-safety.aspx

The new design plans for St. Luke's redevelopment have been released! To learn more about the plans, visit MyBallard.com (link is below). In addition to affordable family housing that I helped secure funding for, market-rate housing will be built, along with a new St. Luke’s Church and Sanctuary for the congregation to be used by the community. St. Luke's Church has been working on this for many years and it is exciting to inch closer to groundbreaking! This project was previously stalled, but I was able to move it forward by connecting St. Luke's with Enterprise Community Partners. For more information, https://bit.ly/3pcukg2

I was honored to attend the Fallen Firefighter memorial at Occidental Park this morning. Each year, the Seattle Fire Department hosts this event to honor fallen firefighters and recognize their service. This event recognized Firefighter Matt Runte and Firefighter Michele Williams, who recently passed in the line of duty.

The Christmas Boat Parade is happening this Saturday, December 17th on Lake Union! Come to Lake Union to see all the boats decked out with lights. This event is also a Toy Drive for the Seattle Children’s Hospital. You can drop off toys for the drive at Ballard’s West Marine store. The best viewing for the parade is typically at Gas Works Park. It’s going to be a cold night, so be sure to bundle up if you plan on attending! More information can be found here: /

We’re one step closer to the pathway to permanency! I’m looking forward to voting on the final regulations for street cafes next week at our City Council meeting. Thank you to SDOT for being such great partners in this work. Also, a big thank you to all the folks who have written the council in support of street cafes. I’m really enjoying hearing from Seattleites about how much they love them! You can read more here: /stories/seattle-one-step-closer-to-making-streatery-permanent

The Ballard Art Walk is happening tomorrow, December 10th on Ballard Avenue! For folks that haven’t been before, the Ballard Art Walk is held the second Saturday of everything month to highlight local artists and small businesses. December is arguably one of the best months to attend, and if you’re shopping for gifts, you will truly find something one of a kind. My D6 District Director, Amy, is planning to be there so don’t hesitate to say hello if you see her!
