- Record Preorders are open @torjohnsonrecords -
I feel a lot of pressure basically being the steward of someone’s legacy. Katie makes it easy obviously. Her work is so strong and important. Online I try to just share relevant information because the majority of you following here are here for updates on her work. And that’s okay, but I’m worried that faults in who I am or too much about me will take away from her memory and legacy. She was my best friend for ten years. We collaborated and shared everything. We professed our love publicly many times of course, and her personal touch to when she talked to you is, I’m sure, a big part of what drew you to her. She was my biggest fan and I am hers. I still worry sometimes that my posts about my Star Wars band or personal things will water down your memory of her. I think I know that’s not true but the pressure is still there to keep things to the point.
Anyway, the record preorders are open for a week. We gave three stones to the pressing plant to try to recreate for variants this time. If you pick one up that’s awesome. Thanks to everyone for everything. There’s more information on the Tor Johnson site.
Tomorrow evening I’ll be at @shopnava with some pieces that I love. I’ll have a selection of rings and necklaces as well as some hand belts. Send your Valentine to choose for you or come pick for yourself. I’ll be able to size some rings while you wait. Preorders on the site will close tomorrow night
Thistle Thistle is open again for preorders for one week starting today.

I have spent so much time thinking about what’s next for Thistle Thistle. A big part of me feels so sad to be doing it without Katie. Every day in our home she would have a project sprawled across the floor, working on something completely new with the dogs curled in her lap. She would always say she could turn her inspiration on like a switch and just make stuff, and I was always blown away by that because that is not how my creativity works. Packing all the orders the last few months I felt close to her, but periods of it felt like something I had to be doing. Thinking more about it that’s not correct. Thistle Thistle is something I GET to do. I get to continue her legacy, and I get to keep doing something that took care of us and made us feel fulfilled. I want to keep going, and I want to share her work with everyone.
I’m going to open limited preorders again. I’m making a lot of pieces that have meaning to me, and I hope you find something you’ll love. I have included some selections that weren’t available in August, and due to silver being at an all time high I’ve had to limit some of the selections. A lot of the pieces haven’t gone up in price since 2020, and I want to make sure everyone can get something before I raise them. A run of Hand belts are available as well for those interested.
The orders from this winter went past the estimated time window because of the volume as well as organizing and running Katie’s Celebration of Life events, but I’m happy to say I got them all complete.
If you place an order, thank you so much I hope you love your piece, and I’m so happy that you have something to hold and cherish that she crafted for you. And thank you in advance for your patience
When Katie was sick, often I would go into our basement and make music for short bursts of time, I have a lot of incomplete demos of beats and compositions, and then I would airdrop them to her upstairs to listen to. this one I called dream skate.

Tonight my band @sliimoband plays for free at @buttonwoodsbrewing . Doors at seven. We slowed down on shows for obvious reasons. Come hang out, we dress up like sci fi characters and sing about space. 📸 @womprat_mando
I’m happy to say that more than ninety percent of orders are packed and out the door. There are a few items that need to be recast. Not in a million years did I think that this many people would order Katie‘s work. I am so grateful to get to work on these pieces and reflect on the life we had while I do so.
When I said 8-12 weeks for most orders that was before over 2000 people ordered jewelry, and I met that deadline with the majority of it. I also took two weeks from packing while I set up and hosted Katie‘s celebration of life. Everyone has been incredibly patient and I’m trying to be as responsive as I can when people contact me about their order.
I’m just going to continue packing and Hope that I can get everything out by the end of the year. I get a lot of questions about hand belts and some other goods and I will say that I fully intend on doing another release very early in the coming year, but it’s hard to say when while I still have some orders to get out.
Second batch hand belts are also still in production, and I gave a longer timeline on those to begin with because I knew I was already overwhelming our caster with the number of pieces.
everyone who reaches out and sends messages and emails and mail is so appreciated, I read every thing you sent me and it means a lot to know how loved Katie was and how you guys are looking out for me .
part of Katie‘s job was posting every day to share her work with you as she was always creating, not just for her shop, but because she wanted to share the stuff she made for herself with you guys. I try to post updates on my story, but I think a static post can help so you can find it if you don’t catch it.
I don’t always feel like I have something interesting or beautiful to show you guys as I’m just living my life and taking care of myself so it’s hard for me to keep up with that frequency. But I’m here.
Pending orders update:
Packing everyday to get finished up on these orders! I’m so fortunate for everyone’s support for the August run, almost all the pieces are complete and ready to pack save for a few styles. Thank you to everyone for your patience. I took the week before and during Katie’s Celebration to dress the gallery and be there for the whole time. Things are going out as quickly as I can make them. I hope you cherish your pieces forever. There will be some opportunities in the future as well, but I’m not there yet. If you feel like you want a more exact update about your order you can get in touch. Thank you everyone.
This week has been a lot. After a week of intense setup, Sunday we played music louder than I’ve ever played, and Monday we gathered with a line around the block to see what Katie had made. Every day since then I have held gallery hours for more cozy and intimate time to go through notebooks and touch her work. Nothing I write will ever come close to describe how it felt to see how many people were touched by Katie. Crying and laughing and stories, people i hadn’t seen in a decade or people I’d never met before all sharing her in common. Thank you for being there with me for this.
Tonight is the last of the gallery hours, 6-8 pm. If you haven’t come by, or came Monday and feel you didn’t get enough time, I’ll be in there to answer questions or just stand silently.
I’ll try to talk about the week in more detail soon. My fingers are cold from the morning dog walk, but that’s just an excuse for not having the right words to say right now.
Katie Forever.
Birthday tradition. Upside down knife and a scream when she cut her cake. Today she would be 34. Last night was really special. Hundreds of people came out to celebrate and spend time together. I can’t do a big words post right now.
See you all tonight at the gallery. 6-8pm
