Technology is more than a tool, it creates access, growth and opportunities. Our digital literacy program focuses on closing the digital divide that impacts our communities of color.
Through this program, we provide access to laptops and low cost internet as a means to benefit workforce development for our community 💻
Color the Block was able to provide over 75 laptops/Chromebook’s to our digital literacy graduates over time.
We are so proud of our participants and wish them well on their future endeavors.
Mother’s Day is still not over! We would like to give an honorable mention to the nominees for our Seeds of Love giveaway. Motherhood always deserves to be celebrated 🎉

Wellness Wednesday: Garlic 🧄
Last Wellness Wednesday, our fellows were interested in a fresh garlic bulb straight from the garden, we dissected it together, and everyone took a brave bite!
Why garlic?
It’s packed with powerful nutrients and natural compounds that help support your immune system, fight inflammation, and add bold flavor to your meals.
The children (and adults!) loved seeing how food grows and learning that real healing and flavor start right in the soil.
See you Wednesday!

California Economic Summit – January ✨
Back in January, our team had the opportunity to attend the California African American Chamber of Commerce Economic Summit.
The summit focused on empowering African American entrepreneurship and opportunity, with powerful conversations around economic mobility, health equity, and community wealth building.
We attended many sessions and even had our founder speak during the Session V: Health & Economic Growth, networked with inspiring leaders and organizations, and proudly represented Color the Block.
It was energizing to be part of these important discussions — especially as we continue expanding our work in community gardening, wellness, education, and creating real access and opportunity right here in Sacramento.
Grateful for the experience, the connections made, and the momentum it gave us heading into the year.

New Garden Space at Fruitridge Community Collaborative 🌱🍃
Our team had a great visit to our new garden space at Fruitridge Community Collaborative!
We walked the beds, admired the thriving fruit trees and native plants, and enjoyed tasting fresh sugar cane straight from the garden.
We’re excited about this growing partnership and the potential it holds for the community.
Stay tuned for upcoming volunteer days to help clear weeds, prepare beds, and support this beautiful new space.

Chickens & Fresh Eggs at the Garden 🐔🥚
Our garden chickens are happy and laying!
Fresh eggs collected straight from the coop which is a beautiful reminder of how everything works together in our little ecosystem. The chickens help turn kitchen scraps into rich compost, keep bugs in check, and give us these wonderful eggs in return.
The kids especially love checking for eggs and learning where real food comes from.
Simple joys and real sustainability happening right here.

Garden Wellness in full swing 🌱🍋
Our team spent time tending to the citrus trees checking on young lemons and making sure everything is healthy and thriving.
These quiet moments of care are what keep our garden strong and productive for the whole community. From soil to harvest, every step matters.
Grateful for everyone who shows up consistently to nurture our space.

Garden Wellness Wednesday 🌱🐔🎨
From building and painting birdhouses, collecting fresh eggs from the chickens, creating art on the grass, to pulling up beautiful leeks straight from the soil — every corner of the garden was full of life and learning.
Wellness Wednesday looks like: hands in the dirt, creativity flowing, good food growing, and community doing it together.
All ages, all welcome. Come grow with us!
Next one: May 13, 2026 10am–12pm at Rainbow Mini Park.
