With the temps warming up here, and Spring just around the corner, we’ve had our first couple broody hens let us know they are ready for motherhood. After collecting some fertilized eggs, (look for that faint white dot with a bullseye in the yolk) Penny was given some eggs to hatch. We obviously also had to pop some in the incubator! She has been diligently sitting on her clutch for 21 days now keeping everything nice and toasty. Stay tuned for what comes next! 🐣
Our sweet Marigold, Goldilocks, Goldie…
We have had so much fun these past five years. One of the original pandemic pullets from our first ever flock. You first came to us the tiniest little thing at just one day old. You were the most curious and inquisitive little chick, even taking flight at one week old and flying right into the toilet! We always made sure the lid stayed down following that adventure. Dad nick named you Curious George because you were always getting into something. Whether it was escaping under the fence during free range to go dust in the neighbors garden beds, or standing at our door pecking the glass to be let in, you kept us on our toes. Raisins quickly became your favorite treat, and we could hold one and have you jump straight up to get them. By just a couple of years old, you had grown bigger spurs than any of the boys…and you knew how to use them. You laid eggs for us for a few years and they were shaped just like you, short and round. We always knew which ones were yours!
Thank you for all the smiles Goldie girl, we won’t ever forget you. 🧡🖤
