Let me tell you a little story about a weekend that changed my life… I was 18, back living at home for 6 months while I saved money to move back to Glasgow and figure out what I was going to do with my life. I came to Glasgow one Friday night to see @iancrawford_jnr band Kain opening for a Detroit garage band at Barfly, the @soledad_brothers . From the minute Ben Swank appeared and did the most spectacular line check I’ve seen to this day I knew it was going to be special. The show was even better, my tiny teenage mind was blown. Half way through the set Johnny Walker appeals for a place to stay that night, the band were touring on a shoestring budget. Ian tells me he’s between flats and asks who I’m staying with, one of my oldest friends @ac_urquhart , and with her flatmate away for the weekend, she comes to the rescue and says they can stay with her too. After the show Ian introduces us, and the 3 piece band explain there’s actually 5 of them, they have a driver and Brian’s girlfriend is with them, would that be too much trouble? ‘No problem, but someone might need to sleep on a floor.’ Turns out, their driver is a ridiculously talented blues man himself, a certain Mr David Viner from London, and Brian’s girlfriend? Only Meg White from arguably the coolest band on the planet at that time. Seeing her leap from the cover of NME to Ashley’s living room in her tartan jammies was quite something to get my head around. They had a day off tour the next day, so as Ashley goes off to work I find myself driving round Glasgow in a battered transit van with 4 of Detroits finest musicians, and what I’ll soon discover is one London’s greatest too. I try my first Bloody Mary (I’m not ashamed to admit it tasted like pasta sauce to me - in fact it still does) but more importantly as well as playing me bands I’d go on to love such as The Detroit Cobras, they played me Nuggets for the first time. I have truly never been the same since hearing it. That Christmas my parents got me the box set and I began to fall down the rabbit hole to where I am today. More in comments 👉🏻👇🏻

Happening tonight in the bar, we are buzzing to have the return of thee amazing Holly Calder to the McChuills decks… Holly has been involved in music in Glasgow for many years, currently putting on psych, garage & rock’n’roll gigs & festivals around the city with Freakender, co-running Anna & Holly’s Dance Party at the Rum Shack and hosting a radio show on Clyde Built Radio. Further afield Holly travels around the world playing her prized collection of psych 45s to fellow enthusiasts, being honoured to have played at clubs from Tokyo to LA and all across Europe, as well as at some of the best Psych festivals around, from Liverpool and Barcelona Psych Fests, to Desert Daze and Levitation Austin. Walden 7 - the most incredible architectural tour I’ve ever done. Designed and built as a social housing experiment completed in 1975 by Ricardo Bofill Taller de Arquitectura. A completely staggeringly breathtaking place and my new dream retirement home.

Spring has sprung, and hopefully the last snow is behind us🤞🏼 the sun and light has been some inspiration behind this weeks @clydebuiltradio show which I’m currently working on, while the Velvet Underground book I’m enjoying has apparently inspired my wardrobe choices. I’ll be away at the great @barcelonapsychfest when the show airs on Friday at 1pm, so here’s an early heads up it’s a-coming. The track list isn’t finalised yet, but I hope you enjoy 🖤💐
