Today is the International Day of Families. This year's theme, "Families, Inequalities and Child Wellbeing," reminds us that a child's future should never be determined by the circumstances they are born into.
Yet across the world, millions of children grow up without access to the digital tools that open doors to learning, opportunity, and connection. When a family lacks access to technology, the gap between potential and reality widens with every passing year. At Close the Gap, we believe that a refurbished laptop is more than a device. It is a second chance. A future taking shape.
On this day, we recommit to ensuring that every child, regardless of where they live or what their family earns, has a fair shot at the digital world. 💻💙

What if the laptop your company no longer needs could become someone’s second chance?
At #TransformIT Europe 2026 in Brussels, our Director of Business Development, Loïc Ganza, shared a powerful message: surplus IT is not waste, it is an opportunity.
During his session, “Your IT’s Second Life: How European Companies Transform Surplus Hardware into CSRD-Proof Impact,” he highlighted how responsible IT reuse helps organisations meet ESG & CSRD goals while creating real impact in communities worldwide.
One story especially stood out.
In Kenya, Maureen, an inmate, gained access to digital skills training through reused technology while in prison. After completing her sentence, she rebuilt her future and today works as a computer & digital literacy trainer.
One device.
One opportunity.
One transformed future.
Because technology is more than hardware.
It is access.
It is dignity.
It is hope.
Thank you to the #TransformIT Europe team and everyone who joined the conversation on building a more inclusive and sustainable digital future.
The future of sustainability is not only circular but also human-centered.
👉 Curious how your organisation can turn surplus IT into verified social and environmental impact?

What makes meaningful work truly special are the people and stories we meet along the way.
We said goodbye to Christopher James, who has spent the last three months learning, contributing, and growing alongside our team at Close the Gap Kenya. His dedication, curiosity, and willingness to learn made him a valuable part of the team.
We believe in creating meaningful opportunities for young professionals from across the world to gain hands-on industry exposure, exchange knowledge, and grow through practical experience.
Thank you, Chris, for being part of our story. We are proud to have contributed to your growth and grateful for the energy and passion you brought to the team.
Strengthening international partnerships starts with shared vision and meaningful conversations.
Yesterday, our founder, Olivier N. (Baron) Vanden Eynde, hosted H.E. Ambassador-Designate Joash Maangi and H.E. Tom Neijens, Ambassador-Designate of Belgium to Kenya, for discussions on advancing Kenya–Belgium collaboration in technology, innovation, manufacturing, and investment.
The engagement also highlighted the importance of digital inclusion in driving sustainable growth and creating opportunities for communities and young people through technology.
We look forward to building impactful partnerships that create lasting value for both Kenya and Belgium.
Advancing circularity in Kenya’s textile and apparel sector is no longer a future conversation; it is happening now.
Our team was represented at the “Advancing Circularity” workshop by John Nyaga, who delivered a keynote speech on sustainable finance.
Our takeaway is that to reach circular economy goals, we need financial systems that support green innovation and responsible production.
Strengthening Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) accountability isn't just a metric; it's how we build a more inclusive and resilient textile industry together.
We are grateful to our hosts, the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA), and the Sustainable Inclusive Business Kenya (SIB-Kenya), alongside partners Edukans Kenya and Sprout Africa under the #WearTheGreenFuture initiative.
The discussions highlighted the growing importance of:
♻️ Circular business models
🌱 Sustainable production practices
📦 Waste reduction and material recovery
📘 Compliance with emerging sustainability regulations
🤝 Collaboration between industry stakeholders
We believe sustainability and innovation must go hand in hand.
Conversations such as these are critical in building resilient industries, empowering young people with green skills, and shaping a future where economic growth and environmental responsibility coexist.
We commend the organizers and partners for creating a platform that moves the industry from strategy to implementation.
The future of sustainable fashion and manufacturing in Kenya depends on collective action, and we are excited to be part of that journey.
What does safety really mean?
For us, it starts with people. Making sure our teams have the right conditions and tools to do their work well.
But it doesn’t stop there. It also means taking responsibility for the environment we operate in.
Because real impact only works if it’s sustainable.
Happy World Day for Safety and Health at Work.

The digital world should belong to everyone. 🌍💻
Yet millions of girls around the world still lack access to technology, digital skills, and opportunities in ICT. Bridging this gap is essential for creating a more inclusive and innovative future.
This week, we are celebrating International Girls in ICT Day, a moment to highlight the importance of empowering girls through technology and digital education. It’s also an opportunity to encourage more young women to explore careers and opportunities in the tech world.
At Close the Gap, we believe that access to technology can open life-changing opportunities. Through our work, we support initiatives that provide girls with digital tools and learning opportunities, helping them build skills, confidence, and curiosity to explore the world of technology.
Because when girls connect to technology, they connect to opportunity. 🚀
