The Center for American Women and Politics @womenandpolitics Gender & Politics Research Hub is a central site for information-sharing and connection among researchers, practitioners, media, and members of the public who share interest in and commitment to promoting gender progress in U.S. politics. The hub lifts up the important work of other scholars and experts in this field, as well as continuing to share CAWP research. The CAWP Gender & Politics Research Hub was created to: *Distill and translate research findings for easier use by practitioners, public, and media. *Facilitate the communication of the latest research findings to political practitioners to promote research-driven strategies and minimize duplication of research efforts. *Provide a platform for practitioners to share on-the-ground insights that will ensure practice-informed research. *Foster relationships and dialogue between and among researchers, practitioners, media, and funders. tgers.edu/research-analysis/gender-and-politics-research-hub

Close the Gap Recruiters are hard at work, identifying outstanding women to run where term limits will open up 2028 opportunities in targeted open and flippable County Board seats. NOW is the optimal time to plant the seeds to see strong women up and down the 2028 ballot. With your support, we will build supportive runways for future star candidates - positioning them to get out ahead of the pack and overpower barriers they may face on the campaign trail. closethegapca.org

Yesterday Senator Akilah Weber Pierson, M.D. @senakilahweberpierson joined colleagues in the California Legislature, advocates, and Tennessee State Legislator Justin Jones @brotherjones_ to speak out against the ongoing attacks on voting rights. "This Supreme Court decision is a travesty to our democracy and a reminder that we cannot be silent. We must continue fighting to protect the rights so many marched, bled, and died for so future generations can continue to have their voices heard."

CTG Catalyst just released a report on California Boards of Supervisors: "As of 2025, just 34% of County Supervisors across all 58 counties were women, significantly trailing gender representation in California’s municipal office (40%), school board (53%), and State Legislature (49%) seats. The disparity is even more stark for women of color, who make up less than 14% of all County Supervisors despite being upwards of 30% of California’s total population according to U.S. Census estimates. 25 of California’s 58 County Boards (43%) have only one or zero women currently serving." For the first time, we aren’t only focused on closing the gap in the California State Legislature but also California Boards of Supervisors. Counties are among our state’s most powerful political bodies and biggest employers, controlling BILLIONS of dollars and overseeing critical policy areas like healthcare, criminal justice, homelessness, and much more. They are also a major part of the leadership pipeline for higher office. Yet they tend to operate under the radar.

#MondayMotivation 💐 From @femalequotient "Olivia Pichardo, the first woman to play NCAA Division I baseball, is now the first woman to pitch in a regular season D-I game. The Brown University senior stepped onto the mound against Cornell and closed out the win. From making the roster in 2023 to now, Olivia is changing the game and who gets to belong. Let’s go!!"

Friday Fun Post: Jackie Wheeler, OG Recruiter for CTG, in the cockpit of a 777-200 after a flight to Amsterdam this spring. She delighted in sharing with us that both the captain and co-captain were women.

From The 19th News @19thnews "The Supreme Court last week struck down Louisiana’s congressional map that included a second majority-Black House district, labeling it an unconstitutional racial gerrymander and significantly limiting the ability for voters to challenge voting maps under Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. The 6-3 ruling in the case, Callais v. Louisiana, paves the way for Republican-controlled states to eliminate majority-Black districts. 'It is already harder for us to raise money. It is already harder for us to represent districts across the country, and so now this just adds an extra hurdle,' Rep. Nikema Williams of Georgia, who represents the seat once held by civil rights icon John Lewis, told The 19th. 'But what I do know is that Black people are resilient people, and we’ve always known that we had to work twice as hard to get just as far.' 'Let’s not have a binary conversation about only Black people can represent Black seats, because when we do represent a district, the entirety of the district rises,' Rep. Sydney Kamlager-Dove of California said at the CBC’s Wednesday news conference. 'This is a larger issue about snatching democracy from the hands of voters across this country, and continuing to demoralize and marginalize the Black vote.'"
