On a recent visit to βPassage of Knowledgeβ at CCS Center Galleries (thru Jan 31st) we discovered this amazing work by artist Stephany Latham:
βLike a Slow Wind, Eroding
| Darkly and Beautifulβ, 2022.
Handwoven cotton thread, wool, cast in bronze, mineral patina.
Exhibition curator, Todd Erickson, describes Latham as:
β.[...] Really a weaver. Well, really, sheβs a sculptor, but she does a ton of weaving, so her interest lies in bringing that practice to the foundry and to transform textiles into bronze. So a transformation process which you know is very mechanical, and obviously in casting we need to replace one thing for the other, but there is also meaning, if you want to get into it in a deep wayβ¦ and I think she does, because theyβre remnants, theyβre not off of the loom. Theyβre kind of impermanent scraps existing in a particular moment of decay and the casting process preserves that moment.β π§Ά

π Busy weekend in Houston, TX! βοΈ Assets 2023 with our colleagues + friends at @internationalsocietyappraisers was whirlwind!

Somehow managed to slip in a visit to @menilcollection and sat in the @rothko_chapel for 30 minutes - absolutely ETHEREAL!
