🎨 Artist Spotlight | Lauren May — Untitled (The Ear)👂
Lauren May is a quietly prolific artist who prefers to stay under the radar. Currently completing her Master’s in Fine Art at Slade School of Art, London, she’s the kind of artist who doesn’t seek attention — but when she steps forward, people will notice.
She was one of the very first artists Stuart collaborated with, and her work played a key role in shaping the techniques he use today. After hours of frustration trying to extract her imagery, something finally clicked — unlocking a process that became foundational to this practice.
Lauren’s work sits beautifully between painting and sculpture, using mixed materials to blur the boundary between the two. Stuart was immediately drawn to The Ear — it feels both contemporary and timeless.
As a climb, it reads like a large, sloping volume at first: ambiguous, hard to decode. But once you reach the subtle crimps hidden in the hair, everything changes. The layback along the neckline is his favorite moment — playful, precise, and deeply satisfying when you find exactly the right spot.
