There is a strong connection between climate change and increased dramatic weather events, for example Hurricane Katrina and Superstorm Sandy. These weather events cause billions of dollars in devastation forcing the government to contribute to reconstruction. That's billions with a B! Superstorm Sandy has cost the country more than $65 billion alone in lost businesses. Congress therefore appropriated $50 billion in a recovery effort. The American Red Cross spent over $100 million in food and shelter in the months following the storm. FEMA too has approved $384 million in grants for housing assistance and other needs.
