Today the local and devolved elections are happening across the UK, and they’re a reminder that change starts close to home.
Democracy is about voice and choice. About who gets heard, who gets represented, and whose interests shape the systems we live in. Local decisions influence food access, public services, community support and the standards we expect from business here and globally.
Fairtrade stands for fairness, democracy and respect for people and planet. Those values underpin our call for a global trading system that works for everyone, not just a powerful few. Who gets a voice in our systems matters - from local councils to global supply chains.
Across towns, cities, schools, universities and faith groups, Fairtrade communities put these values into action every day - organising locally, standing in solidarity, and pushing for change that reaches far beyond their own neighbourhoods.
Big change doesn’t happen overnight. It grows when people participate through conversation, collective action, and the decision to show up.
