A vision of the future from 1975. I used to collect these cards that came with PG tips. I remember being very excited by this vision of a pocket-sized TV set . So when I found it at a car boot sale I took a photo with my.... pocket size TV set!
Rome..the Capuchin crypt under Santa Maria della Concezione... I was blown away by this when I first visited 40 years ago, especially the finger bone lamps and the Ceiling decoration.. if they were painted white you would think they were fancy plaster work.
Surprisingly little is known about who did this, though it is certainly a meditation on death... Works for me!
Today's carbooty design classics. Set of 1955 Fiestaware swirl plates by Cross Brothers. Likely designer Margaret Casson. Won design awards. And a very jolly hand painted 1939s Tameware teapot.. not particularly special but joyful. Two quid each.
Cheerio Elsa @els__agram ... Off yesterday on big adventures, China, Taiwan Japan onwards. We had a lovely day, fancy meal...Very proud of this brave, independent woman. X
The insanely vast in your face Farnese Palace, brooding menacingly over the little town of a Caprarola which was completely rebuilt to provide a triumphal route to the front door. Inside enormous frescoes celebrate the council of Trent and the suppression of the reformation.. which, judging by this oligarchical power play by Cardinal Farnese (son of Pope, grandson of Pope, Cardinal at the age of 14, shagging with kid, disgustingly rich) was entirely justified. Cracking architecture though. By vignola.
More Rome. Mussolini's bizarre EUR modernist town planning for a world fair that never happened...and Central Montemartini Musei of classical statues in an old power plant.. actually it works. Never underestimate what staggeringly good art could come from the Romans.
Does it really need a caption? A bunch of pictures of buildings, and a lovely catch up and lunch with my old friend Francesco Martone.... Judging by the crowds, maybe February is the only time that Rome is bearable... I've been sketching a bit
Today's car boot design classic...early 1960sFrench SEB coffee moka with the very unusual design of locking the coffee pot into place with a screw clamp.. much sought after, makes great coffee, sell online for £60+ .. Yours for a quid mate.
My complete late 1950/early 60s tie collection, collected over 20 years. A lovely transition in tie evolution which combined the bright colours of the 1950s with the simple geometry and straight lines of the 1960s...many in silk and hand woven in India.
Many thanks to @ealevy528 for kindly receiving and sending on my US purchases.
