Angels of Light
Juni Aranda, Keith Boadwee, Ishan Clemenco, Morgan Corbitt, Ben Kinmont, Austin Leong, Alonso León-Velarde On view through May 30th An exhibition organized by @climate.control.sf , hosted by @lodosgallery Colonia Juárez
Turín 38-B, Mexico City Gallery hours Tue-Thu: 11 am -2 pm, 3-6 pm Fri: 11 am – 3 pm Sat: 12 – 3 pm (By appointment suggested) Angels of Light draws inspiration from San Francisco’s legacy of experimental theater, communal living, and radical politics. The project derives its name from the eponymous avant-garde collective and theater troupe—also known as the Angels of Light Free Theater—that emerged from the city’s underground in the early 1970s. In this spirit, the exhibition navigates contemporary social and political upheaval through play, imagination, and the absurd. Instalation views and work details available at climatecontrolsf.org

ISHAN CLEMENCO n.T. [tetra-band colour permutation series: random sequence; red/yellow blue/white] 2026 12 sets (dimensions variable) for Catherine Christer Hennix (1948-2023) 48 plastic glazier shims, 35mm film leader, stainless steel rod, cotter pins, on wall @ishanclemenco . Permutations of colour-graded glazier shims are distributed in a random linear sequence of 12 four-part sets. Cotter pins, historically designed to connect and secure component mechanical parts, are employed unconventionally as straight posts, pushed directly into walls, at right angles. Early forms of split-pin fasteners date back to 4th C. BCE, for use in Greek and Persian gold jewelry. 12 metal armatures, constructed with cotter pins and stainless steel rods, are positioned on walls at random intervals, with measurements based on modes of limited transposition developed by Lou Harrison (1917-2023), introduced during private music composition residences with the composer in the 1970s. These early studies of the division of the tetrachord, in just intonation, led to the invention and construction of a moveable-fretted string instrument. A stainless steel fingerboard with machined slots was fitted with rows of sliding, spring-tensioned cotter pin frets, one row of short frets for each of five strings. This was the first fretted instrument to independently determine each individual note on a finger board. During extended travels through North India in the 70s, the instrument was stolen; the virtually indestructible metal fingerboard, perhaps with a few sprung frets intact, lost to a distant future. . This new work by Clemenco is included in the exhibition Angles of Light, hosted by @lodosgallery . On view through May 30th.

Sharing three new paintings by Morgan Corbitt, part of our exhibition Angels of Light. Often blending found images with her own photography, these new paintings return to familiar subjects, arranging them in new compositions, pushing foreground to background, turning subject to environment, together opening onto an intimacy that feels earned, or perhaps finally permitted. @not_morgan_corbitt 1. Juni Aranda, Keith Boadwee, Ishan Clemenco, Morgan Corbitt, Ben Kinmont, Austin Leong, Alonso León-Velarde On view at @lodosgallery , Mexico City, through May 30th Colonia Juárez, Turín 38-B, CDMX Gallery hours Tue-Thu: 11 am -2 pm, 3-6 pm Fri: 11 am – 3 pm Sat: 12 – 3 pm (By appointment) Morgan Corbitt (b. 1997, Los Angeles) lives and works in San Francisco, CA. She received her BA from San Francisco State University. Her process begins with photographs from her camera roll and images found online via eBay, which are then distorted and cropped. Removing these images from their original settings and placing them in conversation with other images as diptychs allows them to take on new meanings. These sometimes random combinations mirror the tension between the traditions of oil painting — its laborious and meditative nature — and the abundance of cheap images and visual stimulation we encounter in everyday life. Her work explores our relationship to the object world, and how the things we see every day become charged symbols.
