In A World Of Sunrises
365 Days of Heart, Soul, and Hope.
đMy new book, coming out this April đ
Iâve kept a file of inspiration and ideas for this book over the last few years as Iâve witnessed and personally felt us feeling overwhelmed by our devices and âdoom scrolling.â I wanted to create daily words we could wake up to, turn to for a break from our screens, or sit with before bed. I really wanted this book, like Heart Talk, to feel easeful, beautiful, and useful. Especially useful. I wanted the words in this book to be as helpful to a 16 year old as 75 year old.
I wrote most of this book at home in California this past spring and summer while pregnant with my third daughter. I listened to Anita Baker, Memphis and Bayou ran and played outside my window, Simon wrote in his office upstairs from mine, and the magnolias bloomed. The last slide is from about a month ago, when I laid out every page of the book on the floor to finalize the order and soak in the words before turning in the final draft. I do this with all of my books and itâs always my favorite part.
Lots more to share about this book and the making of it. But for now I just want to say how thankful I am that I get to do this job. In A World of Sunrises is my 7th book and I feel so lucky I get to make stuff that I love for my readers.

I am so proud. The poem I wrote for this book is so personal and this was my first time illustratingâŚanything! This one feels so entirely me. When I look at it, itâs as if Iâm looking at my diary or sketchpad.
Iâm so thankful to Simon and our family for inspiring this work, and supporting me as I brought it to life (countless hours locked in a room alone teaching myself how to draw đ)
To Cait, Jean, Raheal, Ali, Mina , Maris, Kate and so many others- I canât thank you enough.
Lastly, I am especially grateful to my readers, most of you have been with me since my earliest days. It is an honor to be a small part of your lives and see you welcome my books into your homes and families. I never ever take it for granted. I treasure it, and you.
Thank you, thank you, thank you I love you.
Us, always. đ
This time of year can bring up a lot feelings.
â
Graduations, end of the school yearâŚthere are a lot of goodbyes in May.
â
If youâre feeling tender, please remember, all goodbyes hold grief and often pull on the grief already living within us. Knowing this gives us permission to be okay with whatever comes up, rather than ashamed.
â
To the graduates this season, I hope youâre feeling proud and as you go into summer, the season of freedom and in-betweens. Maybe youâre excited, maybe youâre totally freaked out, either way give yourself grace. This may be the first time you feel like youâre moving towards the unknown, but it wonât be the last. Befriend change. It is the only constant. Allow lostness. It is usually the only way you discover unknown parts of yourself. Love big. Do the kind thing. Have fun. And know that you donât have to have it all figured out. You just have to try towards good. Thatâs what most of us are doing. Just trying. â¤ď¸
