Les Damara, également appelés Daman ou Damaqua, sont un groupe ethnique qui représente 8,5 % de la population namibienne. Ils parlent la langue khoekhoe et vivent en majorité dans les régions du nord-ouest de la Namibie, mais on les trouve aussi un peu partout dans le reste du pays. Ils n'ont aucune relation culturelle connue avec les autres tribus d'Afrique et on sait très peu de choses sur leur origine. Il a été proposé que les Damara constituent une population résiduelle de chasseurs-cueilleurs du sud-ouest de l'Afrique, autrement représentée uniquement par les Cimba, les Kwisi et les Kwadi, qui ont adopté la langue khoekhoe du peuple immigré Nama.
The Damara, also called Daman or Damaqua, are an ethnic group who make up 8.5% of Namibia's population. They speak the Khoekhoe language and the majority live in the northwestern regions of Namibia, however they are also found widely across the rest of the country. They have no known cultural relationship with any of the other tribes anywhere else in Africa and very little is known of their origin. It has been proposed that the Damara are a remnant population of south-western Africa hunter-gatherers, otherwise only represented by the Cimba, Kwisi and Kwadi, who adopted the Khoekhoe language of the immigrant Nama people.
