The sugar plum fairy❄️
I started sketching her after seeing the Nutcracker ballet but she actually wasn't in E.T.A Hoffmann's book, so her character was very vague to me. She felt more charming at first but then listening to the soundtrack, I gave her a more mysterious and ambiguous vibe !

I first drew some cute mouse kings because I was inspired by the ballet I saw, where the king was not really scary(2nd slide). After reading the book, he felt much more menacing and he had some really uneasy scenes where he came to harass Marie at night, which inspired the first slide of this !

This was a very beautiful project from Ellie S. Green I worked on this summer with @faust_merle ! It's a Christmas children's book, which is all I love ahah
It was quite a hard one though, with a lot of work and both of us moving to Ireland and starting a new job in the middle of it, but I'm still proud of what we achieved !🎄
Here are some snippets of the final illustrations I did, and some sketches of the fairy at the end. You can see it slowly getting closer to the final one, Faustine did some sketches that pleased us both and we just adjusted things like her clothes and hair :)
