How did someone just compare her to a Jean-Paul Gaultierre bottle bruvvvvv! And I was trying to go into 2026 with good, heavenly vibes only!!!! ffs #2026 #flightofthenavigator #progression #comedyvideos
Primary school antics! I had a conversation with @sandra_london_uk today and the feeling of "not fitting in" was a common one. Growing up as an #indoguyanese in an area that was predominantly NON indo-guyanese was hard! Here's why... #cleftstrong #comedy #guyanese #gujrati
Beautiful right? This is the world's tallest single drop waterfall located in my native country, Guyana.
So a little background, my parents migrated from South America many years ago and along I came - an 80's baby.
I arrived at a time when medical advancements were still in their infancy. Cleft lip and palate was not as widely known as it is today.
My parents tried tirelessly to ensure that I got all the help I needed included medical treatment from surgical assistance to speech therapy. As i got older, I acknowledged that this isn't something easily accessible for many people across the world l. I have a special appreciation for charities such as @operationsmile and @smiletrain for doing the work they do.
Attending Nursery and Reception (Kindergarten in some countries) was just fun! As I progressed through primary school, I noticed the treatment I recieved from some of the other children began to change.
I came from a country that none of them really had heard of so I didn't really fall into any of "groups". I'm not Asian Indian, I'm not from the Carribean (technically) and I'm not African. These were the main ethnic groups in my school.
To add to that, I didn't look "normal" (whatever that is!).
Seems like I got my first insight into how cruel the real world can be. As a child, this was a tough pill to swallow.
Can anyone relate and did any of you experience something similar?

Hello Cleftie Community
Cleft_stories was created for me to share my life experiences through the eyes of someone born with a cleft lip and palate.
Here is the raw truth about being born with this condition - its not easy, we are challenged in a number of different situations, all of which I will expand on in my future posts. At times I hated myself, at times I was super proud. Just like everyone else, there were times where I felt hampered by this condition which now, as an adult, I have come to be thankful for.
So I encourage you to follow, like and interact as I share my thoughts and past experiences. I also encourage the cleft community to share your stories too whether it is you that was born with a cleft lip and/or palate or you have a loved one who was blessed with this gift.
