I started VOUDOO in NY then moved VOUDOO to Paris. My first shoot in Paris circa 2000-2001. It was not popular to be Haitian, but I always stood on ten toes when it came to where my family is from. Denying being Haitian (back then which a lot of Haitians did) would of been denying who I am.
Stores loved the collection but not the name. This is before social media etc… The name held too many stereotypes that they were taught by the media. In my own way I was trying to have them look at me and my culture in a different light. I survived with trunk shows and DTC. The VOUDOO collection ended in 2008 in NYC.
I’m happy to see that via Social Media our stories are being told and we can control the narrative. That so many more black and persons of color can set the tone and find their audience. Something we didn’t have because we were at the mercy of people who didn’t see us as the amazing creatives that we are.
This is why I today so many years later I continue to create. My story hasn’t ended…design for me has always been my life.

Your love, your smile and your warmth will always be missed. Happy Heavenly Mothers Day.
Blessings to all the mothers out there who stand up for their families.
As I am prepping on a new collection I like to look back and see if my designs have stood the test of time. I am a designer who works with an aesthetic of tailored drape and sculpture. I used AI to bring the stills to life…. I’m proud of what I have done in the past and excited at what the future brings. I’m not as young as used to be but my experience with cut and fit will do the talking for me…..
