As the year comes to a close, I wanted to share a moment that is really special to me from the #MALUM Blu-ray that comes at the end of this clip…
When you’re a film actor, especially not a famous one, there’s so few times where you feel like you really get to ACT. Your time on set can feel like it’s mostly about the mechanics of filmmaking, especially when there’s little time and money and you’re not Number 1 on the call sheet.
That’s why the moment at the end of the clip where Anthony comes in and throws me an insane curveball within the context of my character Dorothea meant so much to me when it happened (and why I was thrilled that the cameras rolled on it)! It’s also an example of why I loved working with @antdiblasi and how I learned so much from him especially as I start directing more.

Paul Dano’s interpretation of Eli Sunday as screeching and mealymouthed was the perfect way to play the role opposite Daniel Day-Lewis’s wolf Daniel Plainview.
They’re both con men (game recognizes game) but I would argue that *the point* is that Daniel cannot respect Eli for any reason…and yet…Daniel lets him live rent free in his head year after year after year. That’s why casting an Austin Butler type doesn’t work!
