For most young people Senior Year Spring Break is a trip to the beach in Florida, Alabama or Mexico but not Melody. Instead she said call The Legend Sam L Lester, tell him to get the boat back in the water, prime the poles, load the truck because we’re going fishing. I read somewhere online that he retired…well that couldn’t be any further from the truth because LEGENDS NEVER RETIRE.
Back at Lindsey's Resort, where I’ve been visiting for over 40 years, since I was 6 or 7, we unloaded the truck, got a night sleep and were in the water at 8:00am. It’s amazing because you need a 💣 to get her up for school but you even whisper Sam’s on the way and she is up, dressed & waiting at the door for him to pull up.
As you can see, some things never change. We’ve been fishing now for a day and a half and I’m getting it handed to me. She’s caught about 22 fish to my 4 and I’ve been relegated to photography & cooler duty but I don’t mind. As a Dad, sometimes you just gotta know your place.

Exactly 1 year ago today, I had one of the hardest phone calls of my professional career with Kaitlin & Lourens. I can close my eyes & remember that call as if it just happened. I could feel the pain, the fear, the heartbreak, the tears...the raw emotion I will never forget. It was during that call I made a promise...if they wanted to get married, we would find a way. Just 5 Days later these two said I DO, during an emotional ceremony surrounded by a few family & friends. A quick prayer, toast to the couple & then MAGIC (As if Tinker Bell threw fairy dust) ...
