Juke: Built Off the Record, a new exhibition in MIT’s Wiesner Student Art Gallery, reconstructs historic juke joints: the informal gathering spaces built by African American communities across the rural South during Jim Crow segregation. Through drawings, scale models, and installation developed from photographs and field research, MArch student C Jacob Payne (@cjacobpayne ) translates fragmentary historical evidence into spatial form, reexamining these overlooked environments as works of architecture and cultural memory.

The Geolectric Lantern was designed as a gift from @hashimsarkis , Dean of @mitsap , to former Irish president Mary Robinson during MIT’s 2025 Commencement. The lantern is currently on display at the Venice Biennale!

AIR-0: inflatable footwear for zero-gravity. Our shoe, designed with @mitarchitecture , @mitmedialab , and @mitaeroastro , features inflatable cushions that provide on-demand ankle support and a rotating sole mechanism that locks into a spacecraft interface. By combining pneumatics, ergonomic materials, and mechanical anchoring, the AIR-0 enhances stability, reduces fatigue, and reimagines how astronauts move and work in microgravity.
