The 2026 #FarmBill just cleared the House Agriculture Committee — and it's a setback for farmed animals, states' rights, and common sense. Our Head of Farmer Advocacy & Policy, Julia Johnson, was quoted in @thenewlede , breaking down what's at stake: the bill would strip states like California and Massachusetts of their ability to protect animals from the most basic forms of suffering. As Julia put it — we're not asking for much. The ability for a pig to turn around. To lie down. To take a few steps. That's it. The pork industry calls this "regulatory relief." We call it what it is: corporate interests overriding the will of voters and the basic well-being of animals. The Supreme Court already upheld California's Prop 12 in 2023. Now Congress wants to undo that progress. This fight isn't over. The bill still faces a full House vote — and then the Senate. 🐷 Check out our story to read the full article. #AnimalWelfare #FarmAnimals #FactoryFarming #FarmBill2026 #Prop12 #CompassionInWorldFarming #FoodPolicy #AnimalRights #PigWelfare #AgPolicy

A cow can live for 20 years. On a factory dairy farm, her life is cut short after only five. She'll spend those years forming real friendships — seeking out specific herd mates she prefers above others. She'll remember faces and places. She'll mourn losses. She'll light up with something that can only be described as joy when she solves a problem. But the dairy industry doesn't see any of that. It sees output. And when her output drops — usually around age four or five — she's sent to slaughter. Around 21% of beef sold in the U.S. comes from spent dairy cows. Most people never connect the dots. In between? A near-constant cycle of pregnancy, birth, and separation. Each calf she carries is taken from her within hours. Mother cows have been recorded calling for their calves for days afterward. She deserved 20 years. She got five. If this resonates, try our "less and better" approach — reduce your dairy consumption and choose higher welfare if you do buy. 🔗 Full blog at our link in bio. #CowWelfare #DairyFarming #EndFactoryFarming #AnimalWelfare #CompassionInWorldFarming #FarmAnimals #LessAndBetter #KnowYourFood #DairyFacts #FactoryFarming

If you haven't heard, the House recently passed the 2026 Farm Bill 224-200 — with the Save Our Bacon Act still buried inside it. Now the battle to remove #SOBA from the #FarmBill moves to the Senate. CIWF Executive Director @matthew_t_dominguez 's latest op-ed in @CommonDreams breaks down exactly what's at stake: this goes beyond animal welfare. It's a states' rights issue. A democracy issue. A question of whether powerful corporate interests can use Congress to override the will of voters who passed landmark animal welfare laws by overwhelming majorities. CA's Prop 12 and MA's Question 3 were approved by voters and upheld by the Supreme Court. The Save Our Bacon Act would nullify both — and according to Harvard Law, could wipe out up to 1,000 state laws protecting animals, the environment, and public health in one move. The opposition is bipartisan and growing. Family farmers, food safety advocates, conservatives, and animal welfare organizations are all aligned. The Senate is the last line of defense. At Compassion in World Farming, we'll be there every step of the way. Make your voice heard. - Call 202-224-3121: ask your senators to oppose the Save Our Bacon Act. - Email your Senators: Link in Bio or ciwf.com/farmbill - Read the op-ed: Link in bio under "In the Media" #FarmBill #SaveOurBaconAct #AnimalWelfare #StatesRights #CompassionInWorldFarming #EndFactoryFarming #FoodPolicy #StopSOBA

She's a mother, too, and she can't get to her babies. This sow is confined in a farrowing crate — a metal cage so restrictive she can barely move, let alone do what every mother instinctively wants to do: nurture her young and keep them safe. This is the reality for millions of mother pigs right now, today, on Mother's Day. And the #SaveOurBaconAct, hidden inside the Farm Bill, wants to strip away states' rights to say: this is wrong. She deserves better. Her piglets deserve better. Your matched gift today fights for both. 💚 Every dollar you give becomes two. Don't wait. 👉 ciwf.com/M4M

🚨 URGENT: STOP THE “SAVE OUR BACON” ACT‼️ ⚠️ TAKE ACTION NOW CALL THE CAPITOL SWITCHBOARD: 📞 (202) 224-3121 👉🏽 Ask for YOUR senators and ANY senators on the Agriculture Committee. Amy Klobuchar is one key senator to contact. 🗣️Tell them: “I am a taxpayer and voter, and I urge you to vote NO on the Save Our Bacon Act. Do not overturn state-level animal welfare laws or allow the return of extreme confinement.” ☎️ CALL REPEATEDLY. In a devastating blow to animal welfare, the U.S. House has passed the 2026 Farm Bill including the chillingly named “Save Our Bacon” Act — a cynical Big Meat power grab designed to destroy California’s historic Proposition 12 protections. ✅ Prop 12 was overwhelmingly approved by voters to ban the cruel use of gestation crates — metal cages so small mother pigs cannot even turn around. Now the U.S. Senate is the final line of defense. This affects the entire country. 😳 These intelligent, emotional animals are forced into lives of misery and confinement for industrial profit.🥺🐷 💥 UNCHAINEDTV’s Jane Velez-Mitchell breaks down the urgent fight to save Prop 12 and how YOU can help stop this cruelty - with Matthew Dominguez @matthew_t_dominguez from @ciwfusa , Leah Garces @leahgarces and Lia Wilbourn from @ida_international 🎤 @senadamschiff & @simonereyes 📍 Farm Sanctuary’s 40th Anniversary 👉🏽 Comment: NO BACON and we’ll DM you the link to WATCH URGENT STOP “SAVE OUR BACON” ACT on UNCHAINED.TV

Every one of these mothers had her baby taken away from her. In factory dairy farming, calves are separated from their mothers within hours of birth — so the milk meant for them can be collected for human consumption. Mother cows have been documented calling for their calves for days afterward. They feel this. They grieve this. And they have no choice. This Mother's Day, be their voice. Your gift to our Mercy for Mothers campaign is matched today — every dollar you give becomes two in the fight to end the factory farming system that makes this normal. Show mothers mercy. 💚 👉 ciwf.com/M4M

Mother always knows best. And she knows something is very wrong.💔 This mother pig is one of millions confined in farrowing crates this Mother's Day — unable to move freely, unable to comfortably nurse her piglets, unable to do what every mother instinctively wants to do: nurture and protect. Right now on Capitol Hill, all eyes are on the Farm Bill and the Save Our Bacon Act. This piece of legislation, backed by the National Pork Producers Council, wants to make sure her reality never changes — killing state animal welfare protections that are the only thing standing between her and a lifetime of this. Mother knows best. And the best thing we can do for her is fight for her freedom to move, to raise her piglets, to live a life worth living. Your matched gift today makes twice the difference. 👉 ciwf.com/M4M

The world is waking up to the urgent need to change how we produce food - because the health of animals, people, and our planet go hand-in-hand. Animal welfare must be at the heart of that change. From phasing out cages to driving whole food system transformation, we are committed to ending factory farming across the globe by 2040 – recognizing that animal welfare, human health, and environmental sustainability cannot be separated. Find out more in our new Strategic Plan for 2026-2030, link in bio under News.

Good news for egg-laying hens! Georgia and New York now allow WIC participants to purchase cage-free eggs. This shift will spare 100,000+ birds from barren battery cages across both states. Our policy team has been working behind the scenes to make this happen. A major step forward for animal welfare.
