Heads up, Tulsa drivers!
Beginning on Monday, April 27, utility crews will be working on transmission lines in south Tulsa. This work will require intermittent lane closures along E. 51st St., S. Hudson Ave., E. 61st St., and E. 71st St. over the next two weeks.
As work begins, drivers can expect: • S. Hudson Ave. from E. 51st to E. 61st Streets: Northbound lane will be intermittently closed during wire-pulling operations, leaving only one southbound lane open. • E. 51st St., from S. Fulton to S. Joplin Avenues: Outermost eastbound lane closed. • E. 61st St., from S. Irvington to S. Hudson Avenues: Intermittent closures of outer eastbound and westbound lanes, preventing right-turns onto S. Hudson. Ave. • E. 71st St.: Outermost eastbound lane will be closed between S. Granite Rd. and S. Irvington Ave, while the outermost westbound lane will be closed between S. Lakewood and S. Irvington Avenues.
Crews will reopen lanes on Hudson when work is not actively underway, and have been coordinating with nearby schools to help minimize impacts during drop-off and pick-up times.
During this work, drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, use caution in work zones, and allow extra travel time for delays.
Volunteers are the backbone of so much of the work that keeps our city moving forward. From boards and authorities to commissions, these dedicated residents give their time, expertise, and perspective to help shape decisions that impact us all.
This week, Richard Sevenoaks was recognized for 40 consecutive years of service to the Tulsa Metropolitan Utility Authority (TMUA). Over four decades, Richard has served under nine mayors, led multiple terms as TMUA chair, and helped guide some of the most significant water and sewer infrastructure projects in our city’s history.
His leadership has played a key role in strengthening Tulsa’s utility system - from overseeing major construction and capital improvements to supporting the financial stewardship that has helped maintain strong credit ratings and long-term stability for our water and sewer systems.
Richard’s impact extends far beyond individual projects. His steady leadership and deep institutional knowledge have helped ensure Tulsa’s infrastructure continues to support a growing city - today and into the future.
We’re grateful for his decades of service and commitment to Tulsa.
