Prepare in a Year
🚨 Be ready before disaster strikes. Washington State’s Emergency Management Division encourages every household to take one simple preparedness step each month.
📌 May Task: Secure Important Documents
After a major disaster, having your important papers and records ready can make recovery faster, easier, and less stressful.
📂 Gather copies of:
🏠 Property insurance papers — home, renter’s, auto, boat
🩺 Health insurance papers — medical, dental, life, disability
💳 Financial papers — bank, investment, retirement
📜 Estate papers — wills, powers of attorney, health directives
📸 Photos and videos of valuables — for insurance documentation
🔒 Store them safely:
✅ Safe deposit box
✅ Fireproof box
✅ Zipper storage bag in your freezer
💻 Create digital backups, too:
📱 Scan documents with a scanner or your cell phone
🔑 Save copies to a flash drive and protect access with a password
Prepared today means less frustration tomorrow.

☀️ Come see us this Saturday, May 9, at the Sequim Irrigation Festival Grand Parade on Washington Street!
👋 Several City of Sequim team members will be part of the fun, including Public Works crews helping set up for the parade and Sequim Police officers working to keep streets safe for everyone.
🚛 Watch for City of Sequim vehicles in the parade, including one of our two vac trucks, which are some of the hardest-working vehicles in our municipal fleet. They clean and maintain sewer lines, storm drains, and catch basins throughout our community.
🎉 Our vehicles will be decorated in celebration of the Sequim Sunshine Festival, honoring one of Sequim’s best-known features, our beautiful sunshine! ☀️
🍬 Sunshine Festival volunteers, City staff, and City Councilors will be walking alongside the vehicles and handing out candy, so be sure to wave and say hello!

National Police Week is May 10 - 16
Visit the Karen Kuznek-Reese Gallery at the #Sequim Civic Center during the month of May to see the Sequim Police Exhibit and learn more about Police Divisions and Specialty Assignments. Gallery hours: Monday - Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.
In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as Peace Officers’ Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as National Police Week. There have been 30 Line of Duty Deaths in the U.S. as of April 14 this year.
We thank our Sequim Police Department and all law enforcement personnel for everything they do to keep the community safe.
May the mulch be with you!
