Last Friday, District 5 Representative Michael Baumgartner visited the City of Pullman to have a conversation with City staff, City leadership, and representatives from a wide variety of local groups and organizations. It was a small, invitation-only event held here at Pullman City Hall. Representative Baumgartner gave a short talk about his work in Washington, followed by a focused Q&A session where the attendees could ask questions of Rep. Baumgartner on behalf of their organizations. Questions covered a wide variety of topics from trails to building a thriving downtown to border town tax issues to higher education. The event lasted about an hour. All seven Pullman City Councilmembers were invited, though only two were present (and Mayor Benjamin, of course!) Other organizations that were represented include the Downtown Pullman Association, Maynard-Price American Legion Post 52, Pullman Civic Trust, Pullman Chamber of Commerce, Pullman Regional Hospital, United Way of Whitman County, and Washington State University. City leadership has been working hard to establish meaningful dialogue with people and groups in both our community and Washington State, and this event is another example of how we're working to make that happen. We're grateful to be able to make connections with our community partners and to do everything we can to bring attention to the things that that matter to the Pullman community on both a state and national level!
