Girlfriends and Boyfriends performing at the Palomino Smokehouse alongside local Goth rock/ new-wave band Poltergeist and post-punk Bridgeland. Originally hailing from Vancouver and now based in Toronto, this was their first return to Calgary since 2012. That undeniable 80s punk and new wave sound, drawing on inspirations from The Cure, Simple Minds, and Duran Duran had the room stripping off those pseudo-winter jackets in no time. The leather cowboy hats, chains, and gothic makeup was all that was needed. With covers from Flock of Seagulls and Bruce Cockburn, they had The Palomino feeling like it was transported back in time to where all that mattered was music. Both Bridgeland and Poltergeist performed brand new and unreleased music that kept the crowd locked in, swaying somewhere between nostalgia and now. Parisian Orgy go a long way to convince you they aren’t that great. They call themselves a “slapstick” band, speak with cheeky disdain about their use of “toy instruments,” and, at first glance, seem to relegate their music to something that veers closer to good kitsch than art. All of this self-deprecation betrays how adroitly the collective plait together playfulness and malaise. How they write fantastically frantic, pin-eyed songs, packed with sharp-angled turns, rubbery basslines and twee vocalizations. Or how their newest self-titled full-length may just be one of the finest art punk albums released last year. The past few months I've been incorporating actual lights into some of my work. Most of the photos have been for bands, families, and even food but I've been a bit shy to share them (some are still yet to be shared by the clients so they are sealed until they're ready). It's been a really fun learning curve and has opened my eyes to the concept of crafting the light in my photography. Working more conceptual ideas and trying to achieve them. Let me know what you think! Frankly, I still have a long way to go but I took a strobe lighting course with @heathersaitz and her studio @idleeyescollective and it was just the push I needed to feel a little more confident with all of the gear that comes with making these types of photos and fighting that imposter syndrome that lingers in the back of my mind. I guess I'm sharing these today so that I have something to look back on once I get deeper into the strobe zone and continue to improve. So, if you're ever interested in getting photos taken, I'm definitely looking for trust (and a bit of patience) to build something awesome together. Please reach out! pets, family, modeling, headshots, band photos and all the stuff in between, I'm open to any ideas you have in the studio or the forest.

Some things can never be unseen... Like @thesadiesofficial performing live @ironwoodstage to a full house on February 20. On a frigid -22C evening in Calgary, it was like sitting next to an old friend beside a roaring fire. For over 20 years I've been seeing them live whenever our geographies align and their talent continues to blossom and always surprise. Relentless, captivating, and authentic is the only way to describe it. Thanks to the Ramblin' Ambassadors for starting the fire that night and to @toothblackner for having me.

@frogfestalberta returns this weekend to @festivalhallyyc Saturday Feb 21! Most of these photos are from May Melt 2025 but I had to throw in my favorite goat photo from 2019 when I was just a tadpole and met all the other froggies. Back then I volunteered to lead bird/nature walks around the property in Cheddarville, Alberta. I made so many awesome friends that weekend and still love the sense of freedom, creativity, and community that this group brings to Calgary and Alberta. Love these folks and hope to see you this weekend!

@seanicholasavage at the @palominosmokehouse January 31, 2026. @bad.bodies and @a.d.kheroufi set the mood with poppy beats and charisma. A perfect setting for what was to come . It's hard to describe how much of a fan i am of @seanicholasavage . Sean's material and life experiences that he brings into his music has always resonated with me. Over the past 17 years, I think I've seen him perform live about 6 times in all different cities across Canada and Europe. I truly think he's one of the most brilliant songwriters of my era. The way he describes love, lust, heartbreak, and personal views on life... I've always found a way to relate in my own experiences. I've shed many tears to his music and of course many a wild campfires to his more dance-orientated goods. He slept on my couch once in 2009 when I lived in Vancouver, and I remember him politely asking to use our ensuite bathroom to practice singing and tune his vocals. Quietly I was listening from my bedroom (but don't tell him that). The show that night was happening at a terrible sports bar downtown where he performed with @kool_music_ . Jasper at the time insisted that he play only by the fireplace and the owners tried to kick him out. Later, during Sean's set, out of respect for Jasper, he jumped up and smacked his amp only to quit a couple songs early. You might think this sounds crazy but I only gained more respect for him in that moment. A night I'll always remember fondly. I've followed his journey ever since and every time something new comes out, he always has my ear. Getting to speak with him at Palomino was really nice. He is still just as kind and as humble as I remember. In his performances (no matter the size of the crowd) he never holds back. His voice is so honest and pure and I can't help but wonder where he'll go next. It was really a beautiful night at The Palomino and I'm so grateful for the talent they were able to bring in the last two weeks. Thank you @northfieldguy for bringing in all of the artists' and our community together!

Loving these sick shots from our last show at Pin Bar by @citizenblitz . Again, thanks to everyone who made it out and @mandthespanks for asking us to play. It was a very fun time. We are working on writing a few more songs for our next show in March. Stay tuned for new tunes!
