DEMENTIA ACTION WEEK 18th - 24th MAY
Details from the Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust Dementia Education Team regarding Dementia Action Week events taking place in Cotswolds.
Ahead of Dementia Action Week (18th to 24th May), our Community Services Team met with Kate Haywood, founder and trustee of Lighthouse Dementia Support today to discuss ways we could work together to deliver our objective of making Cirencester a Dementia friendly community.
Lighthouse Dementia Support supports unpaid carers and families of people living with dementia, while also raising awareness and understanding of dementia within the wider community. They do this through immersive dementia awareness training (a Dementia Bus) and by helping grow local peer-to-peer support networks for carers and families.
They offer education that’s clear and compassionate, share real-world tips that make everyday care more manageable, and help families feel less alone, whether they’re just beginning the journey or deep in its complexities.
They champion transformative experiences like the Virtual Dementia Tour, which allows family members, loved ones and non-paid carers to step into the world of someone living with dementia. It’s not about theory, it’s about empathy. And it’s proven to change how people care, connect, and communicate.
We're really looking forward to taking forward some of the ideas and simple fixes that we discussed today.

Dementia Action Week 2026 takes place from 18th to 24th May, focusing on raising awareness, supporting those affected, and promoting a dementia-friendly society.
As part of our commitment to make Cirencester a Dementia friendly community, we’ll be supporting the campaign by sharing information and content about Dementia during the week to raise awareness, challenge stigma, and foster understanding, and to help those affected can live well and feel supported.

Childhood is changing. We need to make sure that decision makers hear directly from children about what they need to make their lives better. We're sharing the #TheBigFuture survey to make sure children can have their say.
The Children’s Commissioner wants to hear from all children about the changes they want to see for a better future, to make sure their voices are heard.
Please encourage children and young people up to age 18 to complete the survey here: /thebigfuture

What a wonderful day we had in St Mike’s today. ☀️
Everyone was out in the sunshine for our Easter bunny hunt, there was story telling, crafts crafting and the toasties were flying out of the “J” kiosk.
The exact kind of day we aim to host in the community we grew up in. Made us feel very proud today!
Thank you to all who came!
