China just tightened its grip on the global battery supply chain 🔋🇨🇳
Since late 2025, export licenses are required for:
→ High energy density batteries (300+ Wh/kg)
→ Cathode & anode materials
→ Battery manufacturing equipment
→ Lithium processing technology
In short: China doesn’t just produce batteries.
It controls materials, technology, and access.
For Europe trying to scale its EV and battery industry this raises a big question:
Can Europe realistically become battery independent?
Part of the answer may be using batteries longer, smarter, and more circular🔋♻️

→ Most EV batteries still have 70–80% capacity when they leave the car
→ That battery can power homes, buildings, and grids for 5–10 more years
→ It can be repurposed for e-bikes, telecom towers, and industrial equipment
→ THEN, and only then, it gets recycled into black mass to recover lithium, cobalt & nickel
→ Those materials go on to make brand new batteries
One battery. Multiple lives. Zero waste

While fuel prices keep climbing, EV drivers are just sitting back like… we tried to tell you. 😌
Here’s the math:
↳ Charging an EV in Europe: ~€0.30–€0.50 per 100km
↳ Driving a petrol car: ~€8–€12 per 100km
That’s up to 30x cheaper to drive electric.
So while some people are calculating prices at the pump…
EV drivers already did the math years ago.
And the best part?
Your car can run on sun, wind or water
Try putting that in a petrol tank.
No, Steve, EV batteries don’t just die and go to landfill 🙄
EV batteries don’t hit 0% and become trash. They just get a bit tired.
When your EV battery drops to ~70-80% capacity, it’s “retired” from your car.
But it still works! It’s just not fast enough for driving anymore.
So what really happens to it? 👀
It could be use for Second life:
- Powers homes
- Stores solar energy
- Backs up data centers
It could also be Recycle:We extract the valuable materials (lithium, cobalt, nickel) and make NEW batteries
Your “dead” EV battery gets a whole second career. Then it gets recycled. Nothing goes to waste.
It’s giving main character energy 🤌

Here’s the thing that nobody tells you, but i will!
Recycling is great! But it’s literally the LAST resort. Not the first.
The actual hierarchy (PLEASE pay attention):
1️⃣ Use it longer (revolutionary, I know)
2️⃣ Repair it (wild concept)
3️⃣ Reuse it (give it a second life)
4️⃣ THEN recycle it (finally)
For batteries specifically:
✅ Keep using them in EVs as long as possible
✅ Give them a second life in energy storage
✅ Refurbish them if they need TLC ( Lithium Thionyl Chloride)
✅ Recycle only when they’re truly done
Why? Because recycling still uses energy and resources.
Reusing is way more efficient.
It should be “reduce, reuse, recycle” but people only remember the last one. 💀
