Lately I’ve had the privilege of working with some incredibly talented up-and-coming artists from my city through CreativeBC’s Demo Recording Program, helping guide them from raw ideas to fully realized demo records.
Through the years, I’ve created with artists and musicians from all walks of life and levels. There’s something particularly special about being in the studio when an artist is still discovering their sound. Helping them build arrangements from scratch, hone in on their vocal pockets, shaping production textures, and translating inspiration into records that feel authentic to who they are. Through their learning, I get to learn as well.
My goal during every session is always to create a space where artists feel comfortable experimenting, taking risks, and finding their voice — whether that means the simple act of conversating, team and trust building, refining toplines, tightening song structure, digging deeper with subject matter (or in the crates), trying new musical palettes, or helping them lock into the sonic identity that makes them stand out in today’s landscape. Watching artists level up their songwriting, studio confidence, and overall creative workflow is always inspiring and fulfilling.
It was meaningful and enriching to help
@levvi.b upgrade musically; guiding him through the songwriting and recording processes, finding a sound true to him, and levelling up his guitar acumen. He’s even gotten into beatmaking.
Thank you to
@CreativeBCs and
@CityOfVancouver for providing opportunities I never had to younger artists, supporting emerging talent and investing in the next wave of artists coming out of our city. I’m always here to help. The future sounds so bright I can see it.
If you’re an artist developing your sound and looking to turn ideas into polished demos, keep building, stay consistent, and trust the process. The growth is in the reps.
