Every artist transition comes with its own creative reset and requires a different kind of studio approach. I spent the better part of last year in the studio with @soliven , one half of @manilagrey , as he began exploring his voice as a solo artist for the first time. The sessions were informed and approached with respect for the legacy of MG, while intentionally venturing into musical territories that hadn’t been explored within the group context. We focused on song development—experimenting with tempo and key changes, vocal manipulation, harmonic and sonic space, and production textures that could support a new creative direction. I introduced Sol to worlds rooted in soul and boom bap, while he was equally interested in exploring four-on-the-floor rhythms and island-inspired aesthetics. Sincere thanks to @creativebcs and the @cityofvancouver for their financial contribution and continued support of music creation in our local community.

Lately I’ve had the privilege of working with some incredibly talented up-and-coming artists from my city through CreativeBC’s Demo Recording Program, helping guide them from raw ideas to fully realized demo records. Through the years, I’ve created with artists and musicians from all walks of life and levels. There’s something particularly special about being in the studio when an artist is still discovering their sound. Helping them build arrangements from scratch, hone in on their vocal pockets, shaping production textures, and translating inspiration into records that feel authentic to who they are. Through their learning, I get to learn as well. My goal during every session is always to create a space where artists feel comfortable experimenting, taking risks, and finding their voice — whether that means the simple act of conversating, team and trust building, refining toplines, tightening song structure, digging deeper with subject matter (or in the crates), trying new musical palettes, or helping them lock into the sonic identity that makes them stand out in today’s landscape. Watching artists level up their songwriting, studio confidence, and overall creative workflow is always inspiring and fulfilling. It was meaningful and enriching to help @levvi.b upgrade musically; guiding him through the songwriting and recording processes, finding a sound true to him, and levelling up his guitar acumen. He’s even gotten into beatmaking. Thank you to @CreativeBCs and @CityOfVancouver for providing opportunities I never had to younger artists, supporting emerging talent and investing in the next wave of artists coming out of our city. I’m always here to help. The future sounds so bright I can see it. If you’re an artist developing your sound and looking to turn ideas into polished demos, keep building, stay consistent, and trust the process. The growth is in the reps.

I’ve been sitting on this song for a little bit, originally it was supposed to be for all my millennials, who have seen literally the world fall apart as we grew up, but with everything happened right now I think it’s turned into more than that, it’s an artist. Our first job is to speak on our experience and also talk about the things that Society won’t let us. Nobody wants to speak up and use your voice. Everyone is scared of being ostracized or canceled. What the fuck is the point of making music if you can’t talk about the terrible shit that’s happening right now. Being a slave to algorithm that will never give you a fair shot. Bending the knee at systems the only pick and choose people they can use and abuse. I have a platform and I’m gonna use it to say exactly what I feel what a lot of us feel. The song isn’t completely finished yet, but if you like it give me a ✊🏾 in the comments #music #revolución #hiphop #fuckice #25
