I’m often rushing around London 😅, walking about 30k steps a day, trying to capture everything I see, especially on days when the sun’s out!☀️
When I can, I like to use a gimbal to mix up my shots and add a bit more movement and on days like these, having a lightweight gimbal setup is my priority 🙌
I’ve been using @zhiyun_tech stabilisers for the past 4 years, and recently they sent me the @cinepeer Weebill 3E, which is a lighter option for my on-the-go shoots.
So, here are my 6 favourite shots I like to capture using a gimbal…Which is your favourite?
1. Forward + up: One of my favourites for taller buildings or bigger scenes, it reveals the subject gradually and adds a bit more movement!
2. Tripod mode: Simple, but I use it a lot! It helps get a clean, still frame without relying on handheld steadiness.
3. Orbiting: A nice way to add motion around a subject, I used this with the curved staircase to mirror the shape in the movement.
4. Lens flare reveal: A subtle side-to-side movement can help catch soft sun flares and add a beautiful texture to your footage!
5. Sideways walk: Good for that passing, POV feel, especially with people in frame, while keeping everything steady.
6. Following: My favourite! It gives a more documentary feel and lets you move freely without things getting too shaky.

I wanted to capture the original parts of Itäkeskus while they’re still around. I still remember Hansasilta from when I was younger full of shops and people, and the old Citymarket at the end of it. Now most of the stores are gone and empty spaces just sit there.
The metro station has stayed pretty much the same though, with the red bricks and all. I think the tower might be demolished soon since Helsingin Sanomat called it one of the ugliest places in Helsinki.
I also wanted to get some movement in the shots to capture the real vibe of Itäkeskus in these videos. I used the Weebill 3E gimbal super light and easy to carry on shoots like this.
