We’re stoked about the list of #academyawards nominations for #BestPicture this year - the most diverse line up ever in the 93 year award ceremony’s history, and two women nominated in the #BestDirector category... Could this be the ripple effect from @parasitemovie winning last year? Let’s hope so! đŸ„° What are your predictions? What are you most looking forward to watch? #oscars2021

We end our week dedicated to female directors with three great masterpieces debut features from last year. All three were deservedly nominated to this year Baftas, and we really urge you to seek them out. Saint Maud (2019) directed by Rose Glass. A chilling, boldly original and disturbing horror masterwork about loneliness, faith and madness. Available to rent on BFIplayer, Amazon Prime and Curzon Home Cinema. . . . Babyteeth (2019) directed by Shannon Murphy. An outstanding, melancholic Australian film about young love and illness that will melt your heart. Available on Netflix . . . Rocks (2019) directed by Sarah Gavron. Another brilliant British debut, Rocks is undoubtedly one of the greatest surprise from last year. A film that feels incredibly authentic and down to earth. It’s moving, joyful and a great reminder of why we need friends in our life. The cast of young non-professional actors is just incredible.
