Had the best day hosting at @cinecircleuk âs TV & Film Fair last month, and Iâve been meaning to post about it ever since.
It was such a great room to be in. Filmmakers, writers, actors, producers and directors all in one space, genuinely hungry to learn, connect and share.
I got to host Q&As with some brilliant guests, and honestly? It reminded me how much I love the industry. The live conversation, the room reacting, the moment a guest says something that makes everyone sit up a little straighter.
Some key takeaways for those wanting to break into the TV, film and creative sectors:
1) Get to the nos quicker. Send the email, complete the work experience, and attend that event. Rejection is a great stepping stone.
2) The more people you know, the more opportunities you will get. You donât know what seeds you are planting now that will grow in months to come.
3) Say hello to people at events, donât hide behind your phone.
4) Running is a great gateway role to the sector. In the position, watch and learn everything and start solving the problem before it arises.
5) Stay curious; if you are not learning, you are getting left behind.
If youâre building a career in film or TV and youâve never been to a CineCircle event, go! The next event is in September.
More of this please this year đ¤đ¤đ¸

đĽ Film and TV Job Fair at Cine World đĽ
đŹ What a day. A packed house where I spent the full day running an Ask Me Anything on careers in TV and Film and delivered a talk on freelancing in the screen industries. Brilliant questions and great conversations with so many emerging creatives.
đ Huge thanks to @cinecircleuk for inviting me back. Thanks to ZB and the whole team, and to all the fantastic creatives who attended đđ˝
đŹ We spoke a lot about freelancing today. For many people entering the industry, freelancing will be the route in and understanding how it works can make all the difference.
