Took my son to @cincycac to pick up his piece that was on display in a gallery over spring. You never know what type of exhibits you’ll find there. This was the second piece that my son has had at the museum and he’s been at the university for a couple years now. But, there’s something about picking up his work and seeing his school on the wrapping that still fills my heart with excitement.

As a CAC Docent, you will give tours to multigenerational audiences, be part of a tight social network of docents, receive behind-the-scenes CAC training on exhibitions, and make an impact on your community through leading conversations about contemporary art. "I really enjoy being a docent. I get to learn about new artists constantly, plus I get to share that knowledge with our patrons. As a retired teacher, I find it very fulfilling.ā€ — Bruce Lazarus ā€œ I enjoy meeting exhibiting artists and learning about their lives and their work. They're all fascinating, and many of them are local. Connecting with the artists reminds me why the CAC feels less like a museum and more like an adventure.ā€ — Kate McClain Learn more and apply at cincycac.org/docent Applications close July 24.

The Elder (Ida), currently on view at @cincycac through August 30. šŸ‘ļøšŸ‘ļøšŸ‘ļø This work represents a major shift in my practice and opens a new chapter in how I’m thinking about drawing, memory, and spirit. I hope you’ll experience it in person at the Contemporary Arts Center before August 30. āœŒļø Curatorial statement: The Elder (Ida) marks a pivotal moment in the artist’s practice as his first large-scale work integrating drawing and cyanotype into a single composition. Known for his hyperrealistic charcoal and graphite portraits, Horton expands his visual language through cyanotype — a process rooted in light, exposure, and time — to deepen his exploration of ancestral memory, lineage, and African cosmology. The work operates as both portrait and portal. Ida’s meticulously rendered presence grounds the viewer in the physical world, while the cyanotype elements open an atmospheric and metaphysical space, suggesting unseen forces, ancestral knowledge, and the layered nature of time. Deeply inspired by Horton’s residency in Senegal through @diasporicsoul , the inclusion of cowrie shells further anchors the work within traditions of divination and spiritual communication, reinforcing themes of sight, prophecy, and connection to the ancestral realm. #art #drawings #Cyanotype #contemporary #geehorton

We're excited to announce our Summer Co-LAB artist, Phyllis Jeffers-Coly (@diasporicsoul ).
