Rusalka’s sadness
•
Rusalka (a mystical figure from pagan Slavic mythology) emerges from the water to herald the end of the world.
Soon she will no longer be alone, her cries will cause metal structures to collapse. Descendants of viscous, petrochemical beings, Rusalka appears through the rust.

Rusalka’s sadness

« Celebration of Chaos »
is a performance that combines neo-spirituality and trans heritage. In researching the history of pre-evangelisation Slavic culture, I found almost nothing that mentioned the place of trans people. For several years I have been interested in the role of trans people in pre-colonial and/or pre-evangelisation civilisations. They frequently served as a link between the physical and spiritual worlds, and were often shamans and healers. I wanted to blend these aspects with those of my (Slavic pagan) culture.
In the performance, I play a character, a creature that is half trans-human and half mystical, who performs a funerary neo-ritual. This not only celebrates death, but transforms it with a queer vision into an emancipatory element, from old world to new beginnings.
Inspired by iconography and various objects used in Slavic pagan rituals, the performance combines historical and anthropological documentation with the empowerment of the queer, de/sexualised body, from divine trans voice to blessed oestrogens. Music or heavy techno futuristic sounds (using no-input mixing technic) are here as an experimental way for this creature to connect both world together.
