Wow … what a day yesterday ❤️
We had the great honour of being part of the national celebration and sharing a small taste of life at Ciderhuset Balholm, the beautiful Kviknes Hotel, and the wonderful choirs of Balestrand.
From morning celebrations and visits from NRK, to laughter around the table, cider in the garden, children in the parade, music filling the village, and the evening light over the fjord, it became one of those days we will remember for a long time.
We feel incredibly proud and grateful for all the attention, kind words, and support we received. Sometimes life in a small village between mountains and fjords can feel far away from the rest of the world and sometimes, like yesterday, it feels as if the whole country visits for a moment.
Thank you again to everyone who stopped by, watched the broadcast, sent messages, or celebrated together with us ❤️
And of course we truly hope to welcome many of you to Balestrand and our farm this summer

Velkomen til inspirerande dagar med cider, fag og gode møte!
Some guests have noticed the size difference between myself and the Ciderhuset team, but I don't really see much difference 🤷🏾♂️

Sometimes collaborations begin quietly, long before you realise what they might become.
About a year ago, Edda started picking roses here at Ciderhuset, carefully drying them and sending them to Renate Lunde from @vossabia .
Now, we’ve delivered roses for the second time.
This Sunday, we finally had the chance to sit down together over breakfast. We talked about entrepreneurship, passion, and what it really means to build something slowly and with care.
What stayed with me most from this meeting was not only the ideas, but the feeling.
That this is just the beginning.
That we will meet again.
I truly admire people who follow their passion and create with integrity. It gives hope to know that there are people out there doing meaningful, beautiful work.
P.S. I also gave her our new product—apple flour from Balholm. Who knows, maybe this too will become part of a future product at Vossabia. Let’s see—we’re excited.
Last week, the whole Ciderhuset Balholm gang went on a little journey 🍻
We travelled together to visit @kinnbryggeri ;a passionate beer producer – to really see, taste, and understand their world. And yes… there is something quite funny about a whole cider house team going on a study trip to a beer producer 😄
We didn’t just explore the production, but also the story behind it all. How Kinn was established, how it has grown, and how they keep creating such rich, playful, and thoughtful flavours.
We tasted a lot (truly… a lot), we listened, we learned, and we got inspired. The creativity in their designs, the colours, the variety of tastes – it gave us fresh energy to bring back home.
But maybe the most meaningful part was this:
doing it together.
Learning together.
Experiencing together.
And getting a glimpse into our colleagues’ everyday life.
Thank you Kinn family
Thank you Espen and the whole team for your quality, your passion, and your generosity.
And these were some very unique days for us at Ciderhuset… because the trip didn’t really end there. It continued back at the house, where the whole Balholm team gathered for a dinner together.
And as you might guess… it wasn’t cider in the glasses that evening 😉 We happily continued with Kinn beer.
Good people, shared moments, and new inspiration – we take all of that with us.
Friday night was one of those rare, magical days inside the Ciderhouse.
Yes, we had a concert with KVARTS (@oysteinrudi ) And it was beautiful. Intimate. Close. The kind of music that doesn’t stay in your ears — it moves through your whole body, through skin, bones, something deeper.
But what stayed with me…
was what happened after.
The musicians didn’t leave.
They sat with us. At different tables.
We started talking. Sharing stories.
And then, slowly… instruments came out again.
One by one.
Voices joined.
We were suddenly singing together…
At one point, one of our guests stood up.
A man from a tiny village in Colorado — even smaller than Balestrand.
He had knocked on our door earlier Friday, even though we were closed. But Eli Grete told him «Come back tonight, we will have concert»
And there he was.
Singing with us.
Saying this was one of the most special moments of his travel so far.
We ended the night in the cave —
like a kind of musical spa, a shared breath.
And I found myself thinking…
this is why we do it!
because sometimes,
a place becomes more than a place.
It becomes a moment.
A connection.
Something that truly moves people — including ourselves.
We always choose concerts we personally long to experience. That’s our compass.
And Friday night, we didn’t just host something. We became part of it.
There is something very special about holding a space where people shape the magic together.

I’ve been seeing FORCING RHUBARB for years… and this year we finally tried it
We covered one row with pots and left the others as they are. After 5 weeks, we couldn’t wait anymore — the rhubarb was literally pushing the pots up!
And the difference… wow.
Color, shape, energy — completely different.
I wish we had taller pots so we could leave them a bit longer (next year!), but even now it feels like a small garden experiment that really worked.
Now I’m most curious about the taste
Will it be softer? Sweeter? Less sharp?
We’ll test side by side.
Forcing rhubarb — we tried it. It works. And it’s quite magical to watch.
Just try 🥰

Today started with fascination.
“I didn’t know you could make an apple tree…
I really didn’t know you could make an apple tree.”
Brage was watching Åge work; carefully, patiently and trying to understand.
And in a way… he was right.
Because this is how it begins.
This is grafting—what we call «poding»
It’s how we grow new apple trees,
by joining two living parts into one.
A root… and a branch.
Different, but connected.
At Ciderhuset, this is how we bring new apple varieties into our garden.
But this moment is about something more.
A child discovering something for the first time.
And a grandfather sharing what he knows.
From one generation to the next,
from hands to hands.
And one day,
this small moment of wonder
might grow into a tree full of apples.
Fascinating
